This is just weird. At first glance, this sounds like a gay orgy, PNP (party and play) gay sex accompanied by crystal meth is certainly common enough and that goes double for Miami.
Ok, maybe it isn’t but it’s still really weird. This sounds like the crazy adventures of a college kid on spring break, not what happens with a married former gubernatorial candidate and rising Democratic star.
I’ll be following this story because I need something different than viruses and Bernie Sanders.
But if you told me I’d wake up in a world where Sarah Palin was rapping Baby Got Back dressed as a neon bear and Andrew Gillum was drunk and just happened to be hanging out in a hotel room with three other men where crystal meth was being used, I’d question your sanity and tell you to stay away from the brown acid.
If accurate, this is a minor tragedy for the national party (and a major tragedy for the FL state party), as Gillum is/was a very talented young Democratic official.
The article reports that all 3 men were alone together, naked in a hotel room, and crystal meth was being used. There’s nothing conclusive about what was happening but to say there was nothing at all to support the assumption doesn’t seem accurate.
There’s nothing in the article that says they were naked. Regardless, the jump to “must have been a big gay orgy!” sure speaks of a real lack of experience in this area, but it sounds like quite the fantasy.
You couldn’t be more wrong. I’m gay and I’ve been around a lot. I described the situation to a gay friend of mine that doesn’t follow politics and he jumped to the exact same conclusion.
Here’s another version of the story
Crystal meth is rampant in the gay community. I also immediately assume PnP when hearing about a group of guys and crystal meth because it is so frustratingly common.
I changed my Grindr to search profiles in Miami, didn’t take long to find someone wanting to host an afternoon T party, and I’m sure they didn’t mean Earl Grey.
I still haven’t seen a confirmed report of nakedness, but I’ll bow to your experience. Seemed like a reach from the first article, just because my gay and non-gay friends doing drugs together in a hotel would not be that remarkable.
Again assuming accuracy - I guess it’s better to have this come out now (eh, sorry for the tasteless pun) than to have his star really rise and then for him to be disgraced. As things now stand, he’ll be forgotten outside Florida pretty fast.
Florida appears to have a Good Samaritan act similar to New Jersey where you can’t be prosecuted for drug possession for seeking medical assistance for an overdose.
And it seems like it was a small quantity for personal use. I’m not sure a big city would even bother even if it was 3 anonymous guys, I’m sure Miami gets this a lot. Meth isn’t marijuana but all three have had their names published and it seems that would be enough.
