Android help? My on-screen keyboard disappeared

I have a Vortex HD65 Android phone. When I try to text, instead of the on-screen keyboard appearing, I’m getting “Tap to speak” with a red circle around a microphone icon. I must have changed a setting or something, but don’t know what, nor how to return to on-screen keyboard displaying.

I try: Settings->System->Languages & input->On-screen keyboard, which goes to screen showing “Google Voice Typing” but the slider thing isn’t active–can’t turn it off–

Is there some other settng that I must change, in order to turn off this voice thing? Wondering if there are dependencies here that aren’t apparent–

Thx for help!

Sounds like the keyboard app was accidentally disabled or corruped. Check to see if GBoard is enabled in your apps.

You can always use a USB keyboard (or mouse) if you have an adapter. A hair clunky for carrying around but might work in a pinch. This is more useful for when touch response stops working, like after a mishap.

Very possible, even likely, but try to easy stuff first. @LynnM, have you done a full restart of the phone? I mean where you press and hold the power button down until you get a mini-menu with a restart option? That’s first and easiest fix for a lot of issues. Second, have you installed any new apps or updated your Android software recently?

There’s also the possibility you’ve activated some of the accessibility features, such as those for blind users, but again, easy fixes first.

Maybe just download the keyboard app again: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.inputmethod.latin

Or an alternate one, like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.touchtype.swiftkey

Thanks for replies–was a Gboard problem–now fixed–appreciate the help!
