Andy Williams has died.

Wow I haven’t thought of Claudine Longet (she of “Invitational” fame) in a long time …

Three voices, one guitar. Sublime. My jaw dropped in amazement. Goose-flesh on my arms. Thank you ever so much for that link.

I also remembered the cookie-mooching bear on the show as a kid. However, did Prohaska also do the bear’s voice or was that somebody else doing the voice-over?

Never liked him except for “The Hawaiian Wedding Song.” He and his brothers sang backup for Bing Crosby in “Would You Like To Swing On A Star,” another great song, but his criticism of Obama as someone who wants the country to fail makes him sound like he had some sort of mental disease.

I do know that he was born in Hungary and reportedly had a thick accent, so his voice was dubbed, but I couldn’t find out the actor who did the speaking.

I don’t know what his political views were and don’t care. They were irrelevant to his perfomances and to his legacy.

Wow–I have chills. That was incredible!

Wow! I actually remember seeing this when it aired, over 44 years ago!

RIP.

And the mugatu in “A Private Little War.”

More pointless trivia: Claudine Longet was “introduced” to the public in an episode of “Combat!” and was the romantic interest of Ens. Charles Parker in the first McHale’s Navy movie.

As I recall, Williams threatened to sue NBC and SNL over the Claudine Longet Invitational bit (which I remember watching back in '75, and I laughed my ass off). SNL issued an on-air apology the following week that was just sincere enough to keep them out of court.

Very sad. What I remember most from the show are the Osmonds. Today I saw a program about Marie Osmond, who will be starting her own talk show on the Hallmark Channel. The program opened with the clip of Williams introducing her on her first appearance on his show–when she was 3.

Oddly enough, for me this was not completely unexpected. A week ago I just happened to see an article saying he was ill with bladder cancer and was cancelling his Branson shows. IIRC the article also said he was just days away from death, but I didn’t take that totally seriously–I thought months, maybe.

I’m getting old.

I used to watch his variety show in the 1960s. It was a big hit with my family. Despite being a Republican, he publicly supported Bobby Kennedy in 1968 before the latter’s assassination.

RIP, Andy. :frowning:

I also remember his goofy laugh when cracking corny jokes. A sample from his appearance on “The Muppet Show”. The Muppet Show - S4 E22 P1/3 - Andy Williams - YouTube

When I was a kid, I do know that I wanted to hang out at Andy Williams’s house at Christmas time. And there would be plenty of cookies, and none for that stupid old bear!

Frankly, all I remember him from was “Moon River”.
But a very golden voice it was…RIP.
