Hah, unfinished business! Reminds me of Babylon 5, how Sheridan comments at one point how he never goes on a mission without leaving dirty laundry behind (specifically, dirty socks), because one of his instructors when he first went through training (The Academy? OTS? What do EarthForce officers go through for entry-level training?) made it a point to leave dirty socks behind when he went on a mission.
This way, he wouldn’t die, because he had dirty socks that needed washing. Thus, he always had something to live for.
Another note on Ford in Lie To Me: I interpreted this as showing how Spike, despite being an evil git, was something of a man of his word. He didn’t want Ford as a minion or anything, but the price for Ford handing him the Slayer was that he would sire Ford so that the boy wouldn’t die from cancer. Ford kept up his end of the deal: He handed Spike the Slayer, all but on a silver platter, even provided a whole room full of appetizers. The fact that Buffy managed to escape was not in fact Ford’s fault.
So, keeping to their deal despite the outcome, Spike sired Ford, who was then killed by Buffy. I think this is one of the first times that we see Spike doing something that you might almost consider decent, by keeping to his word.
I don’t know about decent. I’d guess that Spike didn’t exactly make his death pleasant. I wouldn’t be surprised if he let Dru play with the boy all night before finally ending that torment.
Darla was just amused by Liam’s speech impediment.
Of course it was a speech impediment. How else to you explain an Irishman with such a BAD Irish accent? He obviously got speech therapy from an American at some point.
