Angie's list

There’s a website called www.angieslist.com that calls itself “The Homeowner’s Grapevine”. They charge $4.95 a month or $43.95 a year to provide you with information on local businesses like contractors, carpet installers, landscapers, etc. Does anybody have experience with this service? Are they reliable? Worth the money? (although I guess $4.95 isn’t much to lose if they turn out to be worthless)

I paid the $4.95 for one month when I was looking for someone to take down a couple of large trees from my backyard. I found the listings kind of thin for the Seattle area, they have only been here about 6 months and there were no listings for the service I wanted. I did find reading some of the horror stories rather interesting though. And there are lots of folks out there that don’t have a clue either. One plumber was ripped for charging $50 to replace a kitchen faucet, that appeared to be a pretty good deal to me.
