I remember driving through the UVA frat houses in my ambulance when I was a paramedic at age 19.
You could smell the beer from the street. Blew my mind.
Luckily, I got all of the girls anyway, 'cuz I had a uniform, and a bed in the back.
Spit- [sub](who should have gone to UVA, had he not decided that helping people was better than money at 17…Stupid, stupid, stupid.)[/sub]
Civil Defense, I don’t know what school you go to, but lots of universities are trying really hard to provide alcohol-free social events. I know that my school had free films, dances, card tournaments, etc. Those might be good places to meet other non-drinkers.
During Freshman Orientation the woman asks the crowd, “What is the #1 thing, you want to get out of your college experience?” The response of the two girls behind me…“A sex life.”
I got drunk for the first time Friday night. I wasted $100 of booze last week. Now it is all sitting in my room, and I have absolutely ZERO inclination to drink any of it. $90 would have bought me a very good time doing more constructive things.
Nah, probably not. None of my group have dropped out. It’s quite possible – normal, even – to maintain a balance between weekend partying and studying. No need to make such a false generalisation.
I agree with the gist of this thread: university is a great place to meet like-minded people. You don’t have to go out and drink every weekend. But you also don’t have to be anti-social. You’ll find plenty of students don’t like to drink. Not every one at every party gets drunk. It’s always possible to socialise with people like yourself.
