Anime loving dopers, Is Princess Tutu appropriate for a 5 year old?

I’m curious since I was thinking of getting it for my niece who’s 5, likes ballet and speaks Japanese. Seems like an all out win but I’ve heard that the ending is sad for some reason. (Not sure if there’s anything scary or disturbing in it either.)

I have only seen scenes of this one as it was made for Ballet lovers and magical girl fans; however the rating for age 13 and up is there for some violence and dark elements, requiring a little bit of maturity.

Ehhhhh…

Princess Tutu has cute sweet moments, but it has a lot of dark moments. Like, Black Swan type of dark moments. I think Drosselmeyer and the Raven would scare the crap out of a little kid.

Then again, I remember watching The Nightmare Before Christmas at that age and not being scared at all but it was creepy when I got older. I’m trying to think of another movie to compare to…

I think season 1 (the first 13 episodes) could pass, but the last 13 episodes get pretty dark.

Plus there’s that scene where Princess Tutu transforms into a well-endowed Prince Tutu…

I agree with everyone else here. Plus as it goes along it gets incredibly complicated. It could get kind of hard to follow. I don’t find it that dark if you’re watching with her, but it’ll really depend on the kid.

 Whoosh? The only packages I remember are Fakir and Mytho’s…oh ballet tights.

Thanks for the info everybody. It does sound like maybe my niece should be a bit older before watching it. (I wouldn’t be there watching it with her. Maybe her daddy would be but I probably wouldn’t.)
