Anime: Naked chick posing in credits-really necessary?

Gotcha, Kyomara.

I am sure THAT author’s a woman since I met her, although it could have been a doppleganger or a very clever disguise…

Are you kidding? It’s rare to see Japanese couples kiss or even hold hands in public, although this is changing due to Western influence.

It’s very difficult to get accurate figures on rape in any country, but rape is probably even more underreported in Japan than it is in the US. Given the much lower crime rate overall there probably are fewer rapes in Japan than in the US, but I don’t think it’s possible to say by how much.

I was reporting from memory something my dad mentioned about a trip he took to Japan maybe 10 years ago. I’ll ask him about it. (If I’m wrong about anything, it may be the specific number 10, but he said something to that effect and it certainly wasn’t a Muslim country.)

No, I can’t. I agree with you that the rules are different and that the hangups are not the same. I just don’t think that’s the same as saying Japanese sexual culture is less fucked-up. I’d say it’s fucked-up in different ways.

This doesn’t really fit but I’m dying to tell it.

Very obvious spoiler to Alien follows:
When the creature is about to kill the hysterical girl ( the one that is not Ripley) it shows something like a finger or tentacle going up in between the girl’s legs. Than cut and you hear a gasping scream. I was shocked! I was very very drunk when I watched it last night but me and my friend saw the scene 3 times and it was quite clear.

Is this the first interstellar rape scene in american cinema?

It’s just fanservice i.e. gratuituous nudity that serves no other purpose than to afford momentary cheap thrills to the targeted 14-to-40 year old antisocial, undersexed male demographic that primarily consumes this sort of entertainment.

Ah, I see. I was there a year ago with a school exchange program. It might be the difference since that time, or it might just be that I was spending time with a younger (more liberal?) generation.

I find this post ubelievably upsetting. Please try to read with a little more discretion. If any one of the “facts” you list above constitutes the main thrust of any article you read about Japanese sexuality, you need to take that article with a salt mine.

There’s no rape in Japan. Are you dumb?

Sorry, that was way too harsh. Don’t post angry. I apologize.

But c’mon, no rape??? Most men have sex with other men’s wives? It’s like getting your information on American sexual culture from Penthouse Letters. Please please PLEASE don’t believe everything that you read. There are some nutty things in the Japanese sexual underground, but they are not so widespread as to warrant sweeping generalizations.

I’m not angry, but your previous post was toeing the line, if not over it, for a post outside the Pit. I’m not gonna complain about it to a Mod, but if I hear anything else along those lines from you, I will.

I think you should try reading my previous posts with a little more attention, Kyomara. I said I was getting conflicting information about how things are in Japan WRT sexuality. Does that sound like someone who is gullibly accepting everything they read?

I do have cites of sorts for my comments. The business about married men and married women in Japan “dating” other spouses is from a series called “Wired for Sex” on the TechTV cable channel, examining the idea that Japanese sexuality may be the future for other industrialized nations, too. They had interviews with Japanese folk who were doing this. They didn’t say that ALL Japanese married folk did this, but they did imply that it was fairly commonplace.

The business about no rape in Japan comes from several sources, most of which I don’t recall offhand. The most recent one was from a report on the Discovery Channel about modern geishas. It showed them walking to their jobs in traditional geisha costumes at night in the city, and the narrator commented that the geishas felt safe in doing so because there is virtually no rape in Japan.

I wonder if the Japanese maintain a crime info database like we do where this stuff could be checked out.

The rape of a woman by a stranger who grabs her off the street is rare anywhere in the world. It is far more common for a woman to be raped by someone she knows. Such acquaintance rapes and date rapes are also far less likely to be reported than a violent stranger rape. The victim often feels ashamed, blames herself, or fears that making a complaint will make her problem even worse.

There have been a few cases that made the American media involving American women living in Japan who were raped by men they worked with and were unable to get any help from the local police or their employers. Perhaps a Japanese woman would be taken more seriously than a foreigner, but perhaps not.

I Googled and did some research and came up with a couple of quotes:

From “Researching the Rape Culture in America” by Christina Hoff Sommers (available online):

Here’s one from an anti-rape organization out of OSU called CEASE:

So obviously, there is rape in Japan, but the rape rate is VERY much lower than in the U.S., perhaps because of poor reporting, perhaps because Japan is generally a less violent culture than the U.S.

I had to wade through a lot of crappy porn site listings to find these. I don’t know what’s in a porn site operator’s mind when he or she includes “rape statistics” in their keywords, but a lot of them do it.

Cite?

And you won’t let her why?

& congrats for having a having a wife who’d mow the grass!

All comments of course with
