First of all, is Cafe Society the right forum for a video porn question??? I hope so. If not, the moderators should feel free to move this.
I recently upgraded to a fast internet connection which finally enabled me to watch video content without waiting forever for the files to load. So now I have begun to explore the previously unavailable realm of YouTube and, yes, video porn! I mention this so that you know that I am new to this, which is why my question may appear naive. I don’t know.
Most, if not all, of the Japanese-produced porn videos I’ve seen feature dominating/brutish men having their way with unhappy-looking (squeaky) young females. Personally, this is not a turn-on for me, and sometimes I just stop watching because I feel like I’m watching a borderline rape scene.
So I have two questions. First, am I right that this is a (the?) major theme for Japanese porn, or have I just been watching a weighted sample of what is out there?
And second, is it all an act that the women are participating in, or are these girls really as forced and miserable as they appear on camera?
I’m not an expert on the Japanese stuff, specifically, but I think we can isolate some environments to get at answering Q2.
Try watching a bit of hentai. I’m sure a Doper will pop along and inform me that that isn’t exactly the correct word for it, so just to make myself clear, I mean animated Japanese porn, most commonly of Japanese origin.
The forcibility and reluctance you see is very much there in the animated stuff as well, so while I can’t tell you what the mental states of those porn actresses were like, I can with some confidence tell you that when you remove the live-action actress element, the “you know you want it” stuff still remains, and often figures large in hentai narratives. My best guess: strong cultural views valuing sexual innocence and social pressures that dictate very formal social relations between males and females finding an outlet in their porn.
I’m pretty sure that there at least used to be actual anthropologists/psychologists lurking around here so you’re better off waiting for one of them to give a real answer instead of take this issue of Global Masturbator too seriously.
(edit - just noticed your title - it might be construed as offensive. Maybe change it a bit?)
The males are just trying to get the females to stop that damned squeaking. The more the females squeak, the more the males abuse the females. The more the females are abused, the more they squeak. It’s a vicious circle.
I can’t honestly say that Japanese porn is necessarily weirder than American porn, but the weird parts seem to be a lot more widespread than the weird parts in American porn.
And I can attest to the fact that the whole rape fantasy thing is not limited to STRAIGHT Japanese porn. I tend to be what my particular corner of the sexual world calls a “rice queen”, but an awful lot of Japanese gay porn just doesn’t do a thing for me, in part because of the forced-sex situations that are so prevalent and in part because a HUGE segment of Japanese gay porn features “actors” who are very androgynous. If I wanted to watch girlish people have sex, I’d be watching straight-oriented lesbian porn, thank you.
There is some that features normal, adult-sounding women engaged in normal, adult-sounding sex - but as far as I can tell, it is shot for the US market. Most of the Japanese (i.e. pixilated) stuff squicks me right out. I am not a rapist, and don’t harbor any rape fantasies and prefer porn featuring women who are enthusiastic participants.
There is a significant amount of VERY graphic Japanese Female Domination porn out there, way more extreme than American – and probably more extreme than European – so it umm, cuts both ways.
I’ve seen a share of J porn, and I’m offended as hell by the obviously abusive rape stuff and instantly turn it off. But even excluding that, it can be it can tough to know what to think of some of the porn. There very often seems to be at least a seducer and someone helpless to resist, even in lesbian J porn, and it can seem really unclear if the seduced is overcome with pleasure or having a really bad time and wishing it were over. You might see, for example, a woman who was bawling while the guy played with her boobies, but is later enthusiastically fellating him. Apparently it wasn’t rape, but up to the point where the lady joined in it felt awfully rapey. And then there’s all the incest fantasies, groping people on public transit, futanari (look it up), etc. J porn can be a whole universe of weird.
Considering the documented WWII rape atrocities, I’m really surprised the Japanese market would be glorifying rape in their porn.
Even the few videos that I found that weren’t rape scenes still included crying, squealing women acting like sex was the most hideous thing in the world. They do gobble dick enthusiastically but otherwise the actresses seem pretty distressed. I can’t recall ever watching one of this videos all the way through. It’s just too disturbing.
Yes, I learned the hard way that you’re a LIAR if you mention a nice host of things the Japanese did during WWII – even in the same conversation where you just criticized your own country’s behavior in several wars. (You can almost set your watch by how often a news article pops up about Korea making a stink about Japan’s… selective editing of their standard history textbooks).
I should mention that it’s not like they utterly deny they ever did anything wrong in WWII/Second Sino-Japanese War. It’s one of those “we did bad things and we’re collectively very sorry and regretful about it” without ever explicitly acknowledging what any of those things actually were. And since some of the specifics are so bad that they kind of fly straight past “we did some bad stuff” they can’t believe that such a thing could have really happened and that the country wouldn’t be sorrier about it – and thus you’re making it up to make Japan look bad. Because if Japan really did something that bad, they’d know about it and try to make amends.
Japanese culture’s got a stronger emphasis on the whole “‘No’ means ‘Maybe’” thing in general, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s filtering through to sex and then to porn.
Well, not just that, but a great deal of Japanese cultural social interactions – including features clear and distinct within the language itself – revolve around who the superior and who the inferior party in the relationship is. I think that also reflects in the porn.
Got to agree with that. Experienced it first hand with my ex-husband while we were dating. I’d say no and he’d keep trying and trying until I got pissed and then I was the one who, according to him, was being unreasonable. I finally had to have a sit down with him to explain that, in America, no means no.
