Yep. Margo didn’t have a clue until Eve arranged the happy birthday phone call. And Margo might not have picked up on Eve’s chicanery even then, but for Birdie and her skepticism.
I think ArchiveGuy nailed it – the others believed they were special creatures, so Eve’s fawning was expected.
Did Eve even try to charm Birdie?
I admit I haven’t seen it for a few years, and obviously I’m misremembering things. I’ll have to watch it again.
Yeah, I just saw it over the weekend on TCM, or I wouldn’t have remembered anything either. I’d seen it once before, but all I remembered was that Eve = bad and “Fasten your seatbelts; it’s gonna be a bumpy night.” And that weird gap in Margo’s dress – the one she wore at the birthday party. You could see skin on her back, around her armpits, when she moved her arms. I suppose the dress had to be constructed that way, but it looked odd.
