Sao Tome = Fernando Poo?
Illuminati beware!

Well, Atlanta Hope = Ayn Rand, mostly, but I can see the similarities…
My personal theory is that Ann Coulter = Ms. Coulter from Philip Pullmann’s “His Dark Materials” trilogy.
I’ve never figured out what TELEMACHUS SNEEZED actually means tho. The only Telemachus I can find is the son of Odysseus.
Nonsensical takeoff of “Atlas Shrugged,” perhaps?
Who/what is Atlanta Hope?
Sorry, Fiver, but the Illuminatus! trilogy IS on the Doper required reading list. You have been here over three years and if you haven’t read it yet I’m afraid you will have to go.
I read the Illuminatus! trilogy when I was a teenager (which is the age at which the books seem actually meaningful in some way, and certainly fascinating to an adolescent virgin). That was a quarter century ago, and I’ve fogotten some of the hundreds of characters, so how about refreshing my memory fnord?
The Mgt.
I’m with Baldwin. I read it about 10 years ago during a binge reading period (minimum of a book a week for 3 years.) So a lot of the characters are missing from my long term storage facilities.
Yes, it is required reading.
Oddly enough, I’ve read about five diffferent copies, including the original paperbacks before the ominbus edition. It seems as if there are a number of variations in the stories. Maybe it’s just me. Each time I’ve read the trilogy I’ve read it voraciously straight through. Usually it’ll take me about two or three days and two or three nights.
I know that Atlanta Hope was “based on” Ayn Rand, but I was thinking of Ms. Coulter’s abrasive right-wingism couple with self-righteousness.
Sao Tome are some tiny islands off the coast of Africa that recently had an unexpected coup while its pres was overseas. The similarities seemed staggering to me.
I thought this was about Illuminatus! How about that! I read that in… I think it was mid-eighth grade. Lent it to a friend a while later, haven’t seen it in probably six years. Oy.
Anyway, granting that it’s been a while since I had the book around, I think I see the resemblance. But wouldn’t that also mean that Ms. Coulter is also Mavis? And Stella Maris?
Does that mean that OBL is Hagbard Celine and who is Joe Malik ?
No, Celine had a thing against murder, remember?
J. Orlin Grabbe fits in there somewhere. Maybe he’s a grown up Simon Moon?
You have no idea how long I thought that people had nicknamed some disagreeable pundit Ms. Coulter. You can imagine my shock when I saw the cover of one of her books.
Well, if that bogus British intelligence is traced back to Fission Chips, I’ll start to believe some of this stuff.
Suspend your disbelief.
