Another update: 18 days my arse! The purple cast came off today, and now I am wearing a black stretchy thing around my wrist. But the bone has healed nicely, if in a slightly wrong position I can use the hand. The arm is rather thin and covered with scales of dried skin. It looks remarkedly like a lizard, but it feels like my arm and not like a parasite attached to it.
I typed with one hand for the 26 days I had the big cast on. I’ve been typing with two hands since the little cast was put on. I cannot lose my ability to type.
ooooh grats. I’ve only broken a leg (only, ha!) so I understand the thinness and what is called “skin,” more like lizardy scales. Soaking in warm water and scrubbing never felt so good!
So glad you’re cast-less now! Your arm will be back to normal in no time!
Oh yes. I got the opportunity to wash my hand/wrist/forearm when my initial cast was taken off at around three weeks post-break (for re-Xraying) and when the new cast was put on I sighed over how I hadn’t given it a good enough washing. When the cast was finally removed and I was put in a brace, immediately after the visit I went into the bathroom, took off the brace, and scrubbed down my arm a few times, vaguely worrying about how much skin might come off in the process. The simple joy of washing, ahhhh.
I’m happy I got to type and write with the broken arm while it was in the cast, but wow, it did ache by the end of the day.
Well, my hand has gone from looking like a flipper to looking like a derformed hand and finally like a regular hand. I had to scrub it three times with pumice foot scrub and a loofah to get rid of all the dead skin.
