Sometimes, but not always, if I mistype a url I get dumped into a page like this one, which seems to be something to do with MSN.
I don’t know whether this is a feature of my ISP or of IE or what but it annoys me because firstly usually I’ve just typed one letter of the url wrong, and if I wasn’t taken off to some other page I could correct one letter instead of having to retype the whole url. And secondly I suppose it just gives me the yips to be pushed around and pushed towards MSN’s search when if I wanted to do a search, I’d google.
Who is responsible? Is there any way to stop this?
IE uses MSN as its default search engine. since your URL didn’t end in “.com”, you were kicked over to MSN search.
Check out the following link to make Google your default search engine:

Of course, you could always solve all IE problems at once…
A quick and easy way to disable it is just to go under internet options, click on the advanced tab, and disable searching from the address bar (IIRC there’s a check box for this).
I generally get sent to some http://www.incredifind.com site. Same annoyance as the OP, and disabling searching from the address bar doesn’t help.
That’s because you my friend have a Trojan!
(To prevent future Trojans from being installed by websites, see my earlier post)
You are for entering an incorrect or defunct URL!
A browser, other than IE, will bring up something similar.
That’s not right. I used to get a default page telling me that the URL could not be found, but whatever I had in the Address field was not changed. That’s the aggravation in the OP.
