Anonymous makes a stand and draws a line in the digital sand!

Well, there was a core group that was kind of spearheading them at one time, but yeah.

My first post was a joke that Anonymous is so reviled that only Anonymous would claim to be Anonymous. I guess it only appealed to me.

I beg to differ. Being an irresponsible fuck up isn’t a prerequisite of being immensely talented. If the world’s greatest welterweight mixed martial artist can beat shit out of people like no other and still be a nice guy outside of the ring, there’s no excuse for a genius hacker to be a complete dick.

Also anyone claiming to be Anonymous who is not would immediately be targetted by Anonymous. C’mon dude make up your own name.

I didn’t say it was a pre-requisite, just that it was quite often the case in my experience.

Nor did I claim it was any sort of excuse, I have no idea where you got that from. Let me be clear: I can recognize that Van Gogh was shit hot when it comes to painting sunflowers. I also recognize that a person who cuts off his own ear while on a self-mortification bender is dangerously crackerjack. The former doesn’t “excuse” the latter.
But I *do *think that, had Van Gogh not been the kind of guy who’s up for a little self-mutilation because it seemed like a good idea at the time, he probably wouldn’t have become a painter in the first place, nor would he have devoted (and sacrificed) his entire life to his art.
See the nuance ?

Besides, there are many, many ways to be fucked in the head. I’m sure there are plenty of ridiculously talented coders who also happen to have dead-on-balls accurate moral compasses. All I was saying was that, just because someone is intellectually brilliant, doesn’t mean they also have to be ipso facto morally irreproachable. The two notions are pretty much orthogonal.

I understand a cease-fire has been arranged. So what’s the point for Anonymous to meddle in this?

The article is a couple of days old, so Anonymous has been doing this since before the cease fire was even being talked about seriously. I just thought it was funny, especially the part I quoted, so figured I’d post it here as a freebee for 'dopers to go wild and be witty.

Anonymous, if it is Anonymous, is going up against a nasty intel agency, with it’s own cyberwar section.

My money’s on the Jews, in 3 rounds.

Anonymous are probably even more widespread than jews, so my money is on Anon.

This time they are up against an enemy who they can’t blow the shit out of until they find out where they are.

And they are Legion, so there is that.

For a second there I was expecting “It bears the hallmark”… just like everything these days…

Not sure what mean?

Not to mention a lot of awful porn.

Well, Hamas denies they did that bus bombing in Tel Aviv but someone made it look like they did. In case you’ve been sleeping for last 10 years, the news reports would always say - in the absence of any conclusive evidence - that some act of terrorism “bears the hallmark” therefore it must be… them!

Ah yes…first they claimed responsibility, then (after they got negative reactions) they retracted the claim. Very believable. So, of course, the Israelis did it, right? :stuck_out_tongue:

Ah, now I see. How I long for the old days when honourable terrorists would ring the intelligence services or a newspaper up, and using a pre-arranged code word, inform them of what dastardly behaviour they had planned.

Kids today

I might be young at heart, but I haven’t been a kid for a long time. Got anything less patronising to offer?

I was referring to the terrorist kids who don’t have the decency to claim credit for murdering people.

A decency?

I get it! I guess we all long for the days of purported audio tapes and theatrical threats.

“Yes bitch, it’s me! Next time I see you, I’m gonna eff you up!”

My apologies then. I’ll get the hang of that green face one day.

Being against Israel doesn’t mean they are on the “side” of Hamas. This isn’t sports. Maybe they just choose to go after whoever is responsible for killing the most innocent people.
