Anorexia gone wild

Some people have really bad body image issues. It’s really sad. This causes women with Barbie Doll figures to go bulemic, or worse, get gastric bypass surgery.

Case in point – a woman is seeking bypass surgery, and has described herself 230 pounds and 100 inches tall. That gives her a BMI of 16.1.

Geez, and I thought it was just men who lied about how many inches they were.

There is no way that anyone, unless they are actively insane, would seriously claim to be over 8 feet tall. It’s just a mistake, probably caused by the form asking her height in inches and she being too lazy to actually think about it.

Oh, no doubt it’s a mistake. I just can’t even imagine how she arrived at that number. Was she thinking 10 feet? Surely not. 5.5 feet x 12 = 100? Doubtful.

Wait – She’s 5’4". 5 feet is 60 inches, and she put in 40 instead of 4 for the inches.

I’ve corrected it.

Maybe she is 100 cm that is 39 inches or 3’3". If she is that small 230lbs would be quite heavy. And might be in in need of Gastric Bypass Surgery.

But 3’3" is very small.

This reminds me of the guy in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory who got stretched.

Myself? I always remember exactly how many inches I am - 65.

Go go Nancy Drew skills!

We’ve had some really short patients, but never that short. Someone with those stats would have a BMI of 104. Such a person would not be able to move under their own power.

The application has one field for feet and one for inches. After entering feet, the inches field automatically populates the inches field with a 0, and puts the cursor before it. Someone not paying attention could very well type 40 instead of 4.

I really need to fix that bug.

Hardy har har!
