So, I finally succumbed this weekend. Downloaded the trial of World of Warcraft and then signed up for a subscription. I didn’t get much else done the whole weekend. I’m rather impressed already and have really only explored the first ‘map’ of the human starting area and parts of westfall. This adventure really could suck up a lot of my time.
My suggestion would be to get him a trial account. Honestly, it’s a lot of fun if you have a built-in partner to level with. Plus it might keep him distracted enough to forget about being mad about it.
Just don’t tell him it’s a good way to meet guys.
Oh and welcome to Azeroth! Watch out for the sh–poof baaaa.
It’s frustrating. I’ve just spent months playing all this stuff, and I feel dirty.
WOW is almost completely devoid of point, important plot, or even much depth. All there is in the end to it is leveling and the tiny carrots of slightly better equipment and abilities. Makes me appreciate Progress Quest more and more. I just have to get around to canceling my account today…
Yeah, I’m finding this is -starting- to get to me, too. I hit 60 right before BC came out, and all the ‘uber’ items I crafted for myself or got in runs now look like toothpick sculptures compared to the new content. It feels more like an endless staircase than a game.
That being said, I’ve started playing with two of my good friends. We’re trying to keep within a level or two of each other (but I fear that may not last long). It’s keeping the game somewhat more ‘alive’ for me.
Good news for 10-day-trial-people: If you’re using the $2 DVD trial version, upgrading to a full version doesn’t seem to cost any extra. You don’t get a book, but the user’s guide at Best Buy costs a lot less than the whole version of the game.
Since people are listing their alts:
Cenerian Circle (rp)
Timsy (gnome wizard 38, tailor/enchanter)
Thellaren (dwarf paladin 31, miner/blacksmith)
Greebo (human rogue 32, skinning/leatherworking)
Aleatoric (smurf shaman 20, miner/jewelcrafting)
and a couple others
I’d just like to say to the people who are trying the game out that if you find it getting a bit stale, just go to a new area, or try going to the same-level areas of a different race. A change of scenery can do wonders to charge the game up.
I’ll second this. I can’t tell you how many hours I’ve wasted just exploring the different areas…until I wander somewhere meant for someone much higher than me, and I promptly get killed.
Sort of unrelated question I was wondering about. If you buy WoW now, does it include the expanded content (Burning Crusade), or do you still have to buy it seperately?
I’m not going anywhere near WoW because I know that I’ll get sucked in and never leave the house.
A friend of mine just had to put a two hour a night limit on her husband. He supposedly got carpal tunnel from the game and won’t give it up. One of his playing buddies, who he knows in real life, just divorced his wife over WoW. He met a woman in the game and started an affair with her. Obviously these sorts of things can happen with any activity but she just emailed this to me last night and I found it amusing.
Heh, I did just that. I was…level 12 I think and decided to explore a bit. I wandered down the western coast of Westfall and went for a swim in the ocean. Headed south and ended up in stranglethorn. It was cool to explore (and the sweet nectar that sold for 2 1/2 silver was a nice bonus!) but the critters there were so high level I couldn’t even see a level # on them. Died rather promptly, but it was still fun.
