Recommended timing belt replacement interval on a '98 Accord is 105,000 miles. It’s not a bad idea to do it sooner, and many shops encourage that. If the belt is contaminated by leaking engine oil (not uncommon), its life will be shortened. And the financial consequences of a broken belt far outweigh the financial benefits of getting, say, 15,000 more miles of it.

What I would do is find some guy friend who knows cars, like he does his own & ask him to come along. I do that for my women friends. The price they get & the price I get are world’s apart. Mechanics have their own language :slight_smile:
