Another case of a guy shipping himself

Related to Special Delivery: Can a live person be packed in a shipping crate and mailed? (of course).

I recall hearing about another guy a few years back who had himself shipped by truck from his home in Ohio to a friend, who also lived in Ohio, and videotaped the journey. I can’t find any details about this, though, and Google only turns up the two mentioned in the column.

See this from the National Postal Museum:

Note that at the bottom of the page, it tells the story of the parents of a girl who weighed just under 50 pounds and mailed her to her grandparents in 1914 to avoid paying the train fare.

Note that the girl in 1914 was not packed in a crate (thankfully!), but merely put in the baggage car with the required postage pinned to her coat. The freight agent at the destination took her to her grandparents’ house. Kind of a sweet story really.

We see this at the top of Cecil’s column:

How exactly was the Board involved?

Since there’s another thread on the same topic here: Human Mail, and since that one was started first, I’m gonna close this and refer y’all over there.
