Another computer problem for PKB

I know you’re shocked.
This one is more annoying than debilitating like the other ones.

When I open up to Firefox, or open any new windows, I get half a dozen tabs opening to THIS. We’ve been looking for a used “beater” car since our other one is now wrecked, so I’m thinking this may have come from Ebay or Craigs List or Auto Trader, or any one of the zillions of ads we’ve looked at or something. But why has it attached itself to the Tab function?

It sounds like maybe that’s accidentally been set as your home page. In Firefox, go to Tools->Options->General and look at the field labeled “Home Page:”. If that page is in there, change it to what you want for your home page.

As to why you get a half dozen tabs when you start Firefox, if you’re using Session Manager, check your Session Manager options.

No. This isn’t it.

My home page still opens up to Google. But littered all over my tool bar are tabs for this stupid car ad.

And I don’t use the session manager thingy you mention.

But thanks for your response. 99% of the time these problen\ms I have tend to be a :smackshead: on my end.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding what you’re saying. I’m not sure what you mean when you say that there are tabs “littered all over your toolbar”. Are you talking about the row of tabs all the way at the top of Firefox? What do you see on your screen when Firefox first opens? Do you see Google, or is there a tab for Google along with those for the car ad?

Are they actually tabs, or is it maybe displaying a bunch of bookmarks across the top of the screen?

These are tabs. Like if you right click on something and it asks you if you want to open in another window or another tab.

I’ve closed them all, but the moment I go to another website they all open up again. They’re all located above the address bar of the Firefox tool bar.

That’s very weird. Have you tried running Firefox in safe mode?

Sounds like they are popups and you have Firefox set to open popups as new tabs.

I solved it, but I still don’t know how/why this happened.

Somehow in Firefox my home paged got changed to Google plus these tabs on top. The tab content was included in the bar in the tools section of Firefox. That’s why I couldn’t get rid of them. Everytime I clicked to my home page they were programmed to be there.

But how on Earth that happened is beyond me. Nobody in this house changes the home page…EVER.

Are you using Windows?

What do you mean? What exactly was in the home page field? Was it JavaScript?

It said something like http://www.google.com/http://home.comcast.net/~tibbettsdefense/http://home.comcast.net/~tibbettsdefense/http://home.comcast.net/~tibbettsdefense/http://home.comcast.net/~tibbettsdefense/

So my home page would open to Google with those tabs on top.
