Another Election 2000 question (sorry)

By now, we’ve probably beaten the poor animal into little dead horse molecules, but I do have a question.

The election dispute obviously inspired a lot of partisan accusations. Democrats accused Republican officials and Republican appointed judges of doing things in Bush’s favor for party reasons. And Republicans accused Democrat officials and Democrat appointed judges of doing things in Gore’s favor for party reasons.

My question then is whether there was anyone who crossed party lines. Were there any Democrats who took an action that helped Bush or Republicans who took an action that helped Gore? In other words, was there anyone who could plausibly say they acted as a matter of principle rather than just defending their own political party?

Please don’t consider this thread an opportunity to argue that “Everyone on my side was acting on the highest principles. It was the other side that was trying to steal the election.” Thanks, but we’ve all heard that already.

There was a Democratic judge in Florida who made one or two decisions on the recount lawsuits, which were favorable to Bush. These decisions were overruled by the Florida SC, who were themelves overruled by the US SC.

And, of course, when Bush v. Gore was up before the Supreme Court, Justice Souter, who is, I believe, a Republican, and was nominated by a Republican, supported Gore’s position.

Once again I beg persons who have questions about what happened in Florida to view the indie documentary film “Unprecedented”, available at www.unprecedented.org. Our political process was seriously screwed with in the 2000 elections.

Do you have his name or a cite to the decision?
