Or it *could *be the tone he’s been using at us throughout the thread. You don’t really get to call people assholes to their faces and expect kindness, respect and brotherly understanding in return.
GEEPERS, did you come in here thinking you might convince some people to agree with you, or just to rant about evil atheists and act all persecuted?
If the former, you really do need to answer the questions. Ignoring or evading the questions, or continuously changing the subject, leaves people convinced that you can’t answer them.
If it’s the latter, and you’re just here insult us all – well, it’s been real.
The validity of anything you’ve posted in this thread aside, where in the Bible does it tell you not to be a bigot?
The thread did not end until I stopped posting either. Pretty funny abeit disgraceful to see you people foam at the mouth and sling all kinds of ugliness at me and my beliefs on my way out.
I just hope educated people do not take your posts seriously since they are dripping with venomous Christian hate and presented with extreme biased.
Behold my powers of prophecy.
That’s why we take them seriously.
You, on the other hand…
For the love of God, man, correct your English! You didn’t post like that for most of the thread.
Also, did you read drachillix’s post above? “Christian hate” is the word for it, all right.
OT: “Venomous Christian Hate” = Band/Album name.
…congratulations?
Haven’t you been doing the same? You’ve spouted all manner of errors and mischaracterizations of people’s beliefs - is your objection only that the people you’re speaking to don’t stop when you want them to stop? You don’t control anyone’s posting except your own. I’ll shut this thread down if it becomes nothing but mockery and there’s no further discussion of the central topic, but you don’t get to decree when the thread ends and people stop posting.
Well, I’m educated and I must say that most of the venom came from you, GEEPERS.
You really are chuck full of hate, aren’t you?
You are not a follower of Christ.
People should be more impressed by your ignorance of Christianity. It’s quite remarkable.
How about a big ole hug on my way out? Sounds like you could use one!
You know Der Trihs, I usually respect your candor but some of your stuff here is way out of line. I am a member of the Episcopal Church. Sort of the American branch of the Church of England. We have gay priests and bishops, for crying out loud. So I ask you in all good faith, stop painting Christians and Christianity with such a fucking wide brush. The religion is very fractured. The only commonality amongst the various branches is belief in Christ. And I take it you are not nor were ever one. So, you, a non-member, making any sweeping claims about Christians is as pointless as me making statements about what all Freemasons do and believe.
And you sir don’t know anything about me and my life experiences to make such a rash claim. You are welcome to PM your apologies though.
If you be Christian here - why did you stand quietly by while gross blatant lies where presented about Christianity?
If you be atheist- your opinion is worthless to me.
Of course, this has not stopped you from making dozens of erroneous statements about atheists in this thread and several others.
Obviously. Somehow you even know more about atheists than atheists do. Unfortunately what many (not all) Dopers realize is that someone can be wrong about some issues and knowledgeable about others. So someone could be wrong about spirituality and correct about the Constitution, and to turn it around, they can be informed about one and not the other. And your phrasing compels me to ask: are you a giant living on top of a beanstalk?
This explains much.
And you stood by and were silent while your brothers in Christ threatened a teenage girl and her family. And don’t claim they’re not Christian. They self identify as such, were upset at the removal of the banner and you don’t get to determine what they are.
Maybe because we didn’t want to embarrass you any further than you were already embarrassing yourself, by showing your comments for the “gross, blatant lies…about Christianity” that manyt of them were.
Tell me, where in this thread did you do what Jesus is explicitly recorded as commanding in one of the four Gospels (meaning the books of Scripture, not ‘the Gospel’ here)?
GEEPERS,
Hi. I was raised basically atheist (religion was just not something my family did, my parents never railed against it or anything), but felt myself moved toward a more spiritual path as I grew older.
I have known some really wonderful Christians, people who took the example of Jesus and let their love for him manifest through attempting to follow his example - love thy neighbor, judge not, feed the hungry, and so on. I have also always admired the great works of art inspired by Christian theology.
Unfortunately, I’ve known a lot more Christians that were interested in passing judgement, rubbing their religion in my face, and being smarmy about how they were ‘saved’ and I wasn’t. Because of people like them, and the bad aftertaste that dealing with them left in my mouth, Christianity was not a path that I considered.
You are among the latter type. By being such an unpleasant person while loudly proclaiming your faith, you give Christianity a bad name and drive potential converts away. It’s like anti-Witnessing.
–Maggie the Ocelot, who is very happy as a Pagan.
LOL. If that’s a “gracious” exit, what does an un-gracious one look like?
Don’t quit your day job, or go applying for the 1 million dollar challenge. Just sayin’
Not necessarily true. Ive seen Yahoo’s on kids who wore shirts with proclamations and were told to cover or remove the shirt because they could be offensive to others. This has even spread to kids who wore the US Flag symbol on their shirts.
Hard to believe it may be, but I can be an atheist, have many best friends who are church-goers, even allowing my son to go to a church-based retreat this summer (paint ball and a ROPES course!) and not hate Christians. If your path works for you and it includes relgion, bully for you. I’ve explained to my kids why I don’t believe but if they choose to accept religion into their life at some point, and it enhances their sense of spirituality and community, bully for them.
You are wrong in your belief that all non-Christians actively despise people of faith, and wrong that the separation of church and state is undesireable.
Maybe you should consider the possibility that about some of these things you might be WRONG?
