When Mr. S was driving his crappy old pickups, we always took MY car, the bought-it-new Ford Aspire (yes, it’s called that because it aspires to be a REAL car, hahaha) for road trips because it was the most comfy. Gas mileage was just a fringe benefit.
Now the minivan is our comfy road-trip car, but at 25.7 mpg (just checked it today), we may have to rethink that and switch back to the Aspire, which is still going strong at about 180K miles. Not too much poop on the interstate, and I’m told that the CD player is wonky (Mr. S drives it to work, and I work at home), but because it is still getting
45 mpg
I think it may just be worth the bumpety ride. I just did the math for a trip to a family gathering we’re taking this weekend: $32 round trip in the van, $19 with the car (at $3/gallon, which we paid for what’s currently in the tanks). Kind of a no-brainer.
Can anyone beat 45 mpg? (Probably, especially if you’ve got a hybrid, I suppose; I haven’t really done the research because we’re not going to be affording a new car anytime soon.) No scooters or motorcycles, please. (Yeah, my scooter on the back deck gets 80 mpg, but it hasn’t run in about 15 years!) Four-wheeled automobiles only.
Bring 'em on!
