According to the linked articles Switzerland and the Netherlands cover all of their citizens with private, for profit insurance companies. Would this work in the US? Here is the Washington Post article and here is the verification from Politifact.
I started a very similar thread here. It didn’t get much response, but hopefully this thread will. I’m very interested in having some discussion about this.
The problem in the US is everyone needs to buy auto insurance, and it’s just giving money to auto insurance companies. Better to have a public option there, since it’s mandatory.
My assumption is that hard-line conservatives would oppose it on the grounds that any government involvement in the private sector is ipso facto a bad thing.
