Some friends of mine and I were discussing “40 days and 40 nights” (can’t remember how we got there), and from there the conversation drifted to how depictions of rape in movies and other media is usually completely split, depending on the sex of the victim. And we couldn’t come up with a single example of a movie where a woman rapes or sexually assaults an adult man where it isn’t dismissed or outright a joke.
Exept - I vaguely remember not-quite-watching a movie when I was a teenager, and I can’t for the life of me place it. It had the rape of a man by a woman taken seriously. Anyway, I remember, or think I remember, the following:
- I saw bits of this movie probably fifteen years ago, although it may be older.
- The male main character gets raped by a woman during some sort of kidnapping/hostage situation. I distincly remember him being on the floor, his arms restrained behind him (his mouth taped or gagged?), and her riding him, the implication being that she was provoking an involuntary erection.
- The main character was played a black man, and I seem to remember thinking “hey, it’s that guy! I’ve seen him before.” Although I cannot for the life of me remember who it was.
- I think the character was military, and this was some sort of mission gone completely wrong.
- Much later in the movie, he is having some sort of conflict with his (wife? girlfriend?) and he says “I can handle having a gun to my face. They prepare you for that. What they don’t prepare you for, is being raped”.
Does any of this ring a bell for anyone?
