Another 'if you met God' how would your live change

Noooo…once again, I am saying the words that I posted. Did you mean to quote someone else that was saying something remotely close to what you just said?

And maybe you’re not clear on what my old friend Clyde knows-that God speaks to him all the time and tells him which trees are male and which are female, so that he can pair them up properly when planting. He is as sure of his god as anyone is of theirs.

Is it a mental illness to experience the supernatural?

I know of mentally ill people that believe they have experienced supernatural events when others around them at the time have a totally different(and more mundane) remembrance. What is the difference between their experiences and any supernatural experience you may have had?

No. Sometimes people are just mistaken.

I’m not seeing the difference between the two statements.

To me, your statement “To expand on my previous post-barring concrete evidence that can be presented to others, there is currently no way to distinguish between meeting God and experiencing a bout of mental illness.” is essentially, “X is true.”

And my statement “You’re saying that you can’t figure out how something could be done. Therefore you’re concluding it can’t be done.” is essentially “You know X is true.”

And I think we have the same content of X.

Are you saying there is a significant difference between “X is true” and “I know X is true”? Or are you saying we’re presenting different values of X?

This was a question that I forgot to ask the OP, because he is deeply religious, he is the perfect one to answer this question:
How do magnets work?

Of course, because that by definition is what I would be doing when presented with the evidence that’s supposed to prove it is “God”. That’s what you are ignoring; the impossibility of being able to trust anything coming from an entity that can create perfect illusions or simply reach into your head and make you believe what it wants.

You presume that it can be done. I see no reason to think it can. And the more power the being has, the worse the problem gets.

The response to this would depend on the audience I was addressing and context. For this thread, besides suggesting goggling for more information, I answer that it is a property of matter and electromagnetism which has the familiar properties of being attractive to certain materials , repulsive to others. It is a gift of God in His creation, which God lead us to discover when He felt we were ready.

Just a aside based on your comment, I don’t consider myself religious, religion is what many people who don’t know God will need to use as a learning tool. Religion is a set of man made rules just like the laws of a nation and has no bearing on someone truly knowing God and will actually get in the way and must be disposed of in ones walk with God.

This is a lousy explanation of magnetism but a fair characterization of the Kardashians.

Kind of like he did with evolution.

Do we understand everything about magnetism? By that can we say we understand everything about evolution? If we accept the premise that God lead us to discover it only because He felt we were ready.

How many incorrect theories about magnetism came about that God lead us out of those dark ages to a better understanding of how it works. Understanding what evolution is is in its infancy and full of superstition and myths as a small child might have as to how a magnet works.

Any response to post #84?

Sometimes you ask very deep questions, that was one such time

I can’t speak for every case but some do see the spiritual, and if the brain is actually damaged they may be more likely to see the spiritual.

Here is my explanation:
As we have our 5+ senses to detect the physical world, we also have senses to detect the spiritual world. The mind is our physical world ‘processor’ and the soul is the spiritual world ‘processor’ (usually the heart is taken as the physical world soul location).

In our world usually the physical overwhelms the spiritual and we don’t notice the spiritual. But for some, perhaps because of brain damage, perhaps because of drugs, perhaps because of meditation training or other discipline, the physical takes a back seat and a person sees the spiritual, which our consciousnesses takes as what is real and forms that version of reality for the person.

Well
In surat Alanaam:
**(102. Such is God, your Lord! None has the right to be worshipped but He, the Creator of all things. So worship Him (alone), and He is the Guardian over all things.)
(103. No vision can grasp Him, but His grasp is over all vision. He is the Most Subtle, Well-Acquainted (with all things).)
**
(No vision can grasp Him) in this life.

As for this life, `A’ishah said, "Whoever claims that Muhammad has seen his Lord, will have uttered a lie against Allah, for Allah the Most Honored, says -what means,

(No vision can grasp Him, but His grasp is over all vision.)’’
In the Sahih (Muslim) the Prophet ,

(Verily, God does not sleep and it does not befit His majesty that He should sleep. He lowers the scale (of everything) and raises it. The deeds of the day are ascended to Him before the night, and the deeds of the night before the day. His Veil is the Light – or Fire – and if He removes it (the veil), the Light of His Face will burn every created thing that His sight reaches.)
Musa requested to see Him, God told him look at the mount.
(So when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He made it collapse to dust, and Musa fell down unconscious. Then when he recovered his senses he said: "Glory be to You, I turn to You in repentance and I am the first of the believers.’’) ﴿7:143﴾.

Imam Ahmad recorded from Suhayb that Allah’s Messenger recited this Ayah (Yunus 26- which means:

(For those who have done good is the best and even more.) And then he said:

(When the people of Paradise enter Paradise, a caller will say:
O people of Paradise, Allah has promised you something that He wishes to fulfill.' They will reply: What is it Has He not made our Scale heavy Has He not made our faces white and delivered us from Fire’ Allah will then remove the veil and they will see Him.
** By Allah, they have not been given anything dearer to them and more delightful than looking at Him
.)**

That’s what who would enter the paradise experience
Conclusion
1- No creature has seen his lord in this life
2- Believers will see their lord After God accept them in paradise and this the best grace they experience.

The brain damaged are more likely to see spiritual things?

Thank you for answering the question-I couldn’t have said it any better myself.

Knowledge is contextual. If the facts of reality seem to contradict each other, it indicates an error in our reasoning. Any kind of supernatural visitation would contradict everything I already know to be true. In order to accept it as real, I’d have to challenge virtually my entire belief system, from the ground up. But before doing that, I’d have to rule out the much simpler and more obvious possibility: mental illness. In the spirit of Occam’s razor, I’d begin by consulting a mental health professional.
