Another McVeigh question

All the buzz about Tim McVeighs execution got me thinking about something. I’ve read just about everything I could find on the internet, but I cant seem to find out what evidence the prosecution used against him. Were there any witnesses? Why was his car pulled over a couple of hours later anyway? I was pretty young at the time of the bombing, 15 actually, so I dont really remember what the proof was, but on other threads, people mention ‘mounds of proof’ What are thoes ‘mounds’? Thanks all

He was pulled over for driving a car without license plates. When he was pulled over, the officer saw a gun, which was either unlicensed or illegal to display in public in Oklahoma. McVeigh was arrested for possession of an illegal firearm, and while he was in jail for that, he was connected to the bombing for reasons I don’t remember now.

Why he ruined his getaway without putting plates on his car is beyond me. I have a suspicion he’d still be alive (a la Alan Rudolph) today if he hadn’t gotten pulled over.

They got a VIN number from the axle of the rental truck that had been used in the bombing, and McVeigh was identified by the rental agency as the guy who rented the truck. The prosecution’s key witness was Michael Fortier who tied McVeigh to the plot to bomb the building. They didn’t get the eyewitness testimony they’d hoped for to place him at the scene of the bombing, but, IIRC, they got quite a bit of forensic evidence out of his car. Plus a ton of circumstantial evidence, such as finding receipts for his purchase of ammonium nitrate, and accounts of him building “practice” bombs.

thanks guys. It seems to me that he wanted to get caught, so maybe that is why he didnt put plates on his getaway car
