Another old song question. Copperhead road

Yeah, but then the last line doesn’t make any sense:

And now the D.E.A.‘s got a chopper in the air
I wake up screaming like I’m back over there
I learned a thing or two from ol’ Charlie don’t you know
You better stay away from Copperhead Road

“Stay away, or I’ll hide really well!” doesn’t really work. And let’s not forget that the 70s era DEA wasn’t quite as bad-ass as they would become later.

For some reason, I originally thought that it meant that they had somehow modified their car to run on moonshine!

Actually it has to mean both doesn’t it? If they could see him growing weed from the chopper they’d definitely mount a raid. So he must be hiding it. Then there is the threat in the last line which means you must be right also.

I’ve always thought “learned a thing or two from Charlie” meant he had set up booby traps around his growing area, which is why “you better stay away.”
