Another sign question

Around here I’ve noticed small signs that have a red circle with an “S” in the circle and a line through the S. On the side of the circle is a triangle that looks like it is pointing at the adjacent driveway.

Any idea what these signs mean? They seem to be in more rural areas.

Where’s “here?”

“No stopping”, perhaps?

No standing.

That’s my subscription fee earning it’s worth right there. I would have been guilty of violating that sign by mere virtue of not being able to figure out what was prohibited. Stupid “language-free” signs.

Interesting that they haven’t standardized which way the red slash is angled.

Interesting. I never would have guessed it means no standing. It makes some sense, but I wonder why these would be prevalent on rural roads. These signs are usually low to the ground and not on a permanent pole. One driveway will have a sign while the next one does not.

Here is in Oregon.

Hmmm. No standing, in a rural area. Does the other driveway employ a lot of migrant or day workers?

If I had a need to be in a no standing area, I suppose I’d have to sit, lie down, walk, or dance.

It it lots of driveways, but not all, in the rural areas around here. To say I live in an urban setting would be a stretch, but compared to the areas that have the signs I mentioned I certainly do.

Obviously it stands for “Do not change from your mild-mannered reporter secret idenity to your superhero costume here.”
