Another Specific Baseball History Question (Sorry)

Does anyone know where I can find out what was the best record a MLB team has ever had on June 1? Or something approximating that answer?

After June 1, the Mariners were 41-12. Other fast starting teams, like the 1912 Giants and the 1939 Yankees had comparable records, but I don’t have a master schedule in front of me.

Normally, it’s number of games that is the determining factor, not the calendar date.

But it’s a good question. The Mariners record on June 1 is likely in the top 5.

I’m not really answering your question, but …

… the 1984 Tigers started the season with a 35 and 5 record which was the best ever first forty. I believe that the 40th game was played on May 24.

On June 1, 1984 Detroit beat Baltimore 14-2 to run its record to 38-9, .808.

The Mariners were 41-12 on June 1 this year, a paltry .773.

But the best I’ve found so far are

The 1902 Pittsburgh Pirates were 30-6 on June 1, .833
The 1939 Yankees were 30-7 on June 1, .810

Those are likely the highest.
The 1906 Cubs, who finished 116-36, were only 29-15 on June 1.

The 2001 Mariners beat the Rangers tonight for win #116.
