You’d think that by now the police would have been clued in to the whole videotape/cell phone video thing…
I mean, it’s not like it isn’t in the news.
“By now” was several months ago, if you read the story.
And Oscar Grant was 2009 and Scott Olsen’s skull fracture from a police gas canister at Occupy Oakland was 2011. So it was still known previous to several months ago that people could record video of cops behaving badly.
Video recordings aren’t a new phenomenon.
Yeah, if people bring up stories from all the way back to “over the summer”, it makes it so much harder to treat each case as individual and disconnected.
At least this one doesn’t seem to have a racial component to it.
Our resident fascists will soon be here to defend the cop’s actions. (Or maybe not because the cops are black.) But this is their likeliest defense:
“This wouldn’t have happened if the kid turned over as asked! Why didn’t he just turn over?!”
Nevermind that, though. Why in the hell was he on the ground to begin with?
It’s the marijuana, it makes people sleepy.
Even with video evidence, cops are rarely held accountable for excessive force.
With all this outrage, it seems most people are unaware of this story.

I expect our resident fascists will say we can’t make any assumptions about what is shown on video because there must have been wrongdoing on the kid’s part since he was already on the ground.
