In the early-to-mid eighties, I heard a song, ONCE, that I really enjoyed. I’ve been trying to track it down since. I think the title was “Your Secret is Safe with Me”. Can anyone give me some leads?
If my nit-picky correction is on target, this is the title of a song by Michael Franks (renowned for Popsicle Toes).
I don’t remember any of the lyric off the top of my head, but the title and artist should get you started.
Yes it was sung by Michael Franks who also sang “Popsicle Toes”. He’s had a few albums out - soft-rock, jazzy type.
Thank you, but no thank you. Most definitely not Michael Franks. Not quite my taste!
After seeing your responses, I searched Napster for Michael Franks’ stuff and discovered that the title might inlcude “secret’s” as opposed to “secret is”. So, I downloaded his song by the (?)same name and, no, it’s not the one.
While at Napster, I did find a song with the same name by the Robert Cray Band which I am sure is the song I heard but not the version I heard. So, I think I’m looking for a cover version of that Robert Cray Band tune.
Thanks. This is progress.
If you know the name of the song and at least one covering band, try this link: http://www.allmusic.com
I just found the song:
Your Secret is Safe With Me - The Pukka Orchestra
Glad we could help.

- Okay, here’s another: there used to be a lyrics site that you could enter song lyrics and it would tell you the songs that your entered lyrics occurred in. It seemed to contain every English-language song ever recorded. It went offline due to a court case over publishing rights, and never came back on. Or did it? I think it was http://www.lyricshq.com, but now that site is just a Yahoo message board. I searched myself for other similar sites when I found it gone but others didn’t have anywhere near the material it had, or they didn’t search for lyrics; you could only enter the artist name, song or album titles and find the album, titles or artist. Is there anything comparable now? - MC

MC, I belive you are referring to The International Lyrics Server. It’s back up (in association with songfile.com) but is just a shadow of its former self. There’s hardly any lyrics listed, ones that are listed are often incomplete. However, the lyrics are displayed in time with the music.
Another site I found is http://www.lyricsworld.com. This site operates like a search engine and can be used to find lyrics which are not at the ILS. The only drawback is the lyrics returned might have been incorrectly transcribed.
