Another Words With Fríends?

Up until a couple days ago after watching commercial videos Words would give you 3 “coins” for each you watched. Now only 1 is awarded. Anyone know why?

I don’t understand. Do you have a link on the subject that you could provide?

He’s talking about the popular online Scrabble Clone, Word with Friends Game.
He had just mistakenly posted it to FQ.

Thanks!

I read that they have been having technical issues that involve the coins, so that might be the reason.

The company which runs Words With Friends gets payments from advertisers whose ads run on the game. They provide you with coins (which can be exchanged for in-game benefits) in exchange for watching those ads. In other words, your eyeballs, watching those ads, is how they make money (because WWF is a free-to-play game).

My WAG: one of two things has happened:

  • Ad rates (i.e., how much they get paid for running ads) have gone down, thus lessening the effective “value” to the game company of each ad that you see. So, they’re not being as generous as they used to be in what they give you for watching an ad.
  • They likely have some sort of algorithm, to determine the ideal rate of giving players “freebies” (coins, game boosts, etc.) to keep them engaged with the game. They may have discovered that, for most players, they don’t need to give quite as many freebies as they had been.

Or, #3, as @Jasmine suggests: technical difficulties.

Also, for what it’s worth, I just did the “daily bonus” thing on WWF, which is, I think what the OP is referring to. For watching an obnoxious ad for the Gardenscapes game (on which one has to click an X or arrow several times to actually get out of the ad), I did get three coins.

That suggests the issue might indeed be a technical issue.

Or perhaps only a certain number of coins will be provided after which the number of “free” coins will be reduced in order to encourage players to purchase them.
