Answer to Aspenglow

Since we’re not allowed to answer to moderation in the thread and you did ask, the point was that Kayaker was referring to a schoolyard “hand game” which a comment reminded him of, so I referred to another schoolyard “hand game” that Kayaker’s comment reminded me of.

Thanks for the explanation.

Nobody got it. The reference is far too obscure and offensive. There were 3 flags thrown on that comment within seconds.

Things have changed a lot since that original thread was made in 2002. I’m going to join Colibri’s moderation from 2013 to say yours was an equally ridiculous reason to raise a now-22-year-old thread. And you should have known that.

PM kayaker next time if you must make sure he understands you got his reference.

And even in that thread from 22 years ago, it was called “Pretty goddamn racist”.

I hadn’t actually seen that 2002 thread before I googled for an explaination and saw one that linked here. I knew it because that hand thing was all over my school in my childhood, at least as much as “this is the church, this is the steeple”.

I remember that part. But not the Chinese reference, which was the bit that is offensive.

And just so you know, one of the flags thrown was by another moderator.

I completely agree with the moderation as yet a third mod.

A post like that is not going to pass any more.

If anything, I might have gone straight to a warning so you got off easy.

I got it, but the fact that people said something racist decades ago is no excuse to keep saying racist things.

Same here, for what it’s worth (nothing).

I went and read the old thread discussing the grade school joke and suddenly remembered it. It was something I’d heard maybe 40 years ago in school. My brain had properly dispensed with such a useless and offensive bit of “culture”.

I regret reading it and reminding myself that this is the sort of thing I’d have heard decades ago as a kid. I sure hope my kids don’t hear it in school. It’s definitely not something a person should casually reference or repeat as if it’s harmless.

Apropos of nothing, I heard the rhyme when I was in grade school in the 2000s. Coincidentally am part Chinese and don’t like soda.
