Anthrax in my home town...

:frowning: Abilene, TX Pop. ~ 10,000-- the place where i grew up, and where i lived for over half my life, where most of the people I know in the world–including my family–live, is going through an anthrax scare…
I don’t know what to think, I know about fifty people who go to the school where they think it may have been released. all my family is ok, but I obviously haven’t heard from everyone I know there.
there is a major Air Force base there (Dyess), nuke storage etc…

I have a headache.

I didn’t know Anthrax was even touring. Do they have their original lineup?

From the Abilene Reporter-News:

I hate to pick on you guys during what I’m sure is a very stressful time and all, but…

Anthrax is not a virus, m’kay? It’s a bacterium. Smallpox is a virus. The common cold is a virus. The distinction is fairly crucial. Antibiotics won’t do jack for viral infections, whether it’s the latest bug that’s going around or a lethal bioengineered viral plague. On the other hand, massive antibiotic treatment is about the only thing that will prevent death in the event of exposure to inhaled anthrax. (Which probably has not occured in Abilene; it sounds like it’s just some unspeakable mindless twit getting his jollies with a “prank” letter.)

you might find this of some comfort.

but thanks for the info anyway guys (and/or gals)

BTW, Bob I would have found that funny had I not been fearing for the life of many many people I know…

I know what you mean, fecal_nugget. (Damn, but I have to smile everytime I see that nick!)

In another thread here I describe what my hospital is doing to educate us about bioterrorism, but we are all in fear that we might mis-read the symptoms as flu-related, and expose ourselves accidentally.

One of our ER docs wrote many of us a prescription for a 3 day supply of Levoquin (Cipro). He was concerned…

And regarding the third confirmed Anthrax victim in Fla. and how the authorities are sure that no one else has been contaminated: How the hell do they know???

Your concerns are valid
