Antibiotic-resistant disease strains

A few years there was a kinda big scare about how antibiotics had been used too much, and then not consistently, and that a number of drug-resistant strains were emerging. I see from Wiki that it’s still an issue. Is this as big a deal as it seemed, say, seven or eight years ago? Has there since been good progress towards developing even more powerful or effective new antibiotics?

It’s not the impending catastrophe the media painted, but it is an ongoing problem, with no new drugs really in sight. Containment, adaptation, awareness of likely pathogens and proper treatment of them are the key tools we’re using in our battle against community-acquired MRSA, which is what we’re seeing on the front lines more often.

Any developments on this front?
