Anxiety in the UK

From personal observation, there seems to be a lot of anxiety in the UK about having your address listed online and the possibility of being a victim of crime as a result. What is the source of that anxiety, is it the media, the government, both, or something else?

Eh? I dunno if I’d characterise it as ‘anxiety’, but some people are aware of the fact that if lots of people know both where you live and something about you that lets them figure out when you are going to be not at home, your chances of being burgled are significantly increased.

Almost a case study - Liverpool footballers. Permiership footballers are well-known for earning lots and spending much of it on bling, their game times are widely publicised, and Liverpool has a reputation as a bit of a property crime hotspot.

Probably a more significant thing - over here there are no such things as SSNs etc. for credit-checking purposes. It’s all done on your address and your mothers maiden name - so if someone knows some personal details about you and your full address, they can pinch your identity and do nefarious things financially. Most Americans would be a bit twitchy about letting their SSN out for similar reasons.
