This isn’t a Great Debates or a Pit topic - I’m just interested in seeing how many pro-Bush voices there are here, because I’m presuming they’re fewer than in the US electorate as a whole.
There was a thread with a SDMB poll not too long ago, in which Bush got creamed: 82% Kerry - 18% Bush.
Don’t forget, though, that the SDMB does not have a liberal bias.
I was admittedly one of those 82%, but all the same, if you recall, I was stunned by those numbers. As a conservative, I take that as prima facie evidence of liberal bias, but as a person who intends to vote for Kerry I kinda hope that those numbers are indicative of the bigger picture.
No way I will vote for Bush. On the other hand I don’t think I can bring myself to vote for Kerry either.
A poll that rivals AC Nielson right there
Anyone that thinks Kerry’s going to cream Bush, you’re going to be very surprised. At the end of the day, no matter how much people hate Bush, if they dont trust the new guy, they wont vote for them. It all comes down to those final thoughts in the voting booth.
It’ll be a close election though, remember Kerry hasn’t really started his election campaign and Bush barely has.
Oh hell no.
Yes, unless President Bush changes direction.
The Dope isn’t remotely representative of the populace at large and doesn’t pretend to be. (As if even the most statistically careful poll can ring it in 100% but we don’t even try. Not our function.) Just a caveat…
I won’t vote for Bush because I can’t, not in any good conscience. And I’m not a partisan anything. The supposed ideologies behind both parties embody great virtues. When it comes to elections I opt for solid reasons that the candidates can and will work effectively for the country/state/whatever first, with party ideology second. They gotta woo me. Frankly, most pure ideologies are plenty dubious even without human frailties and bunches of money involved.
If Dubya (distinct from BushI) is a conservative, I’m Celine Dion. Deliberately constrained government, fiscally responsible and respectful of citizens? Not to mention canny enough to pilot this nation through all those roiled international waters.
HA!
Damned fools hit a parked car twice.
Veb
Assuming things continue like they have for the last couple of years, yes, I will vote for Bush. His policies more closely match mine than Kerry’s.
I am the very model of a swing voter. I’m holding judgment until November, when I’ll pick the one slightly less thoroughly distateful.
Bush supporter here. I’m a conservative Republican in general.
Anybody who thinks George W. Bush is a conservative hasn’t been paying attention.
On the other hand, I can’t understand why anybody would support Kerry, either. What is there to support? The guy hasn’t ever taken a position he hasn’t reversed himself on, sometimes within hours, unless it’s voting against military and intelligence appropriations. Which he actually voted for by voting against them, or something. He says that bush is doing everything wrong (and he may be right about most of that), but doesn’t propose any alternatives. He just seems to be following the polls. This guy is useless.
I’m staying home this year.
I’ll take “useless” over “actively harmful” any day. I’m voting for Kerry.
Bush is a progressive.
I’m voting for him.
I will be voting for Bush as well. I break with the Republicans on some social issues, but I have very little in common with liberal doctrine.
Kerry will be more friendly to the bunny huggers, tree huggers, and gun grabbers. With the Patriot Act and the Iraq War, I am tempted to vote Libertarian, but I will probably vote anti-Kerry with a Bush vote.
Conservative Republican here voting for Bush- and tho Bush isn’t completely classical conservative, he’s still moreso than Kerry.
Count me in the number that will certainly not vote for Kerry and may vote for Bush. Living in a swing state, although I seriously doubt PA will go for Bush, I am currently deciding whether to vote Bush (as an anti-Kerry vote), vote for a “third party” that more closely fits my views, or not to bother voting at all (as a candidate I could stomach, much less like will never be elected in today’s political climate).
Ah, decisions, decisions…
I’m voting for Bush. I voted Libertarian last time, but when it gets right down to it, we’re in a war, and I need to vote for the man I think is best going to win this war, not go crawling on his belly to the UN, asking for forgiveness.
The rest of it, Social Security reform, tax cuts, etc, can come after we win the war. They won’t matter much if we don’t win.
