I’d like to see U2 at Slane Castle (in Ireland, north of Dublin) just about anytime, but especially during their Joshua Tree tour in 1987/88.
The Smiths at the Bronco Bowl (Dallas, TX). I was only 11 when the Smiths broke up, and I didn’t even get into 'em until high school.
The Who in a small venue
I finally got Rush tickets today for their Philly/Camden appearance in 3 weeks.
The main reason this is important is that I’ve missed EVERY OTHER Rush appearance in Philly, because I always find out about the concert too late. The worst was back in '96, when one of my classmates sat down next to me and casually said “Yeah, I saw some group…Rush…last night…had an extra ticket, too…”
Mozart. Anytime.
Beethoven. Anytime.
Satchmo. Anytime.
I wish I could have been there for those…
I’d like to see Mozart conduct “The Magic Flute”
I’d also like to hang out at the Columbia 30th Street Studio in NY on March 2, 1959 and April 22, 1959.
That’s alright, plnnr—I got two tickets! I’ll be wearing the ice-blue Vionnet gown and waiting for you in the lobby.
Thanks, Eve. I have an extra for Benny Goodman’s 1938 Jazz at Carnegie Hall shows I’ll offer in trade.
The Grateful Dead performing at the Great Pyramid in 1978.
PLD beat me to it, but I’d like to see the debut of Stravinski’s The Rite of Spring in Paris, May 1913.
The Who at the Marquee. London 1965
Bob Dylan at the Newport Blues Festival 1965
Awesome choice. Not to be an ass (well, OK, to be an ass :)), but the words are Freude and Freiheit.
Freunde means friends.
Me, I’d settle for any Rush concert, as I’ve never seen them live. And guess what?
On September 28, my dream will come true.
The Band at the The Last Waltz in winterland SF around 77 or 78
There are some I’d see at any time, any place.
U2. Melissa Etheridge. Johnny Cash. Ray Charles.
And there are others I wish I’d had the opportunity to see (or I wish I hadn’t missed my chance to)…
Stevie Ray Vaughan. Roy Orbison. Louis Armstrong. Hank Williams. Elvis.
Just for the historical record I’d want to see the Beatles here in DC for that first North American show way back when.
I’d say Rush but I’ve seen them like 20 times or something.
Hmm.
Maybe Queen during the News of the World tour. That would be fun.
As much as I love the Beatles, I would not want to see them on tour in the U.S. because the shreiking girls would drown out the songs themselves. In fact, that;s one of the reasons the Beatles stopped touring altogether.
I’d like to have seen the Beatles in Hamburg in 1961, when they were doing Little Richard covers.
It WAS fun Jonathan Chance. I saw them at the Scope in Norfolk during that tour and my brother, who was a bellman at the Omni, got Brian and John’s autograph for me. I still have the tour t-shirt (and one from the Jazz tour). Unfortunately, I’ve put on a pound or two since then and I don’t think they fit any more.
Gobear,
You are right on about the Beatles concerts. The amps they used were so small that The Betales could barely hear them and the crowd certainly couldn’t. Also, it had gotten to the point where The Beatles were pretty much just fucking around on stage during the later tours, the audience couldn’t hear them so what difference did it make what they played. George even played a few shows with his guitar unplugged.
Jerrybear,
It would have been very hard if not impossible for The Beatles to play a good bit of the material from Revolver, Sgt Peper unless they had a full orchestra and a number of other things including a good bit of prerecorded tracks which makes a moot point of going to a “live concert.”
Having seen Paul McCartney, The Who, Elton John/Billy Joel, The Eagles, Guns N’ Roses/Metallica, the only acts that I have a feeling to see are Tony Bennett & Eric Clapton.
I’d like to see Depeche Mode’s World Violation tour. The best setlist from them, ever!!
And I wouldn’t mind if I were able to go this weekend to Synthpop Goes The World in Toronto … Mesh, Icon of Coil, Assemblage 23, And One, and about a million more bands over three days. That’d be nice.
Weezer when they still had Matt Sharp on bass.
Jefferson Airplane on the 1972 tour
Frank Zappa on the Fall 1974 tour
Woodstock
Monterey Pop Festival
The Grateful Dead in 1974-76
Pink Floyd on The Wall tour
The Beatles on the Apple Building Rooftop in 1969
Nirvana - especially the night they were to play in Dublin a few days after Kurt committed suicide - I still have the ticket
