Any body want to have a Civ IV challenge?

Just for fun of course.

I’ve had horrible insomnia lately, and decided to stop rolling around pointlesslyall night and get back to Civ IV(which had been neglected due to Galactic Civ II and Oblivion)

I have crappy unreliable Dial up, so network games are just out for me, but I’m itching for some competition. :wink:

So I’m proposing an individual challenge to anybody interested. We pick a common group of settings, and play to see who has the best score.

The settings: Single player; custom game
Pick your favorite leader since different playing styles do better with different ones.
Difficulty Prince (since it’s a challenge but can still be fun for anybody who’d want to play)
8 opponents

type: Custom continents
Size : large
Climate: Temperate
Sea level: medium
Era: Ancient
speed: normal
Number of continents: random

Options: all off(default)

Victories: turn off Diplomatic and space(they both just work cheesy in civ IV IMO)
No saving and retrying, and no world builder
I figure up to two restarts to make it interesting in case you get stuck between the Desert and the arctic, or if a barbarian gets lucky early and takes your capital, but only until 0 AD. After that it’s your official game for this challenge.

And obviously it’s all on personal honor, and just for fun if anybody’s interested.

They do something similar to this over at CivFanatics, and have apparently been doing it since Civ II. Their version is a lot more regimented, everyone starts from the same save file. But if you’re interested in starting a SDMB version then I, for one, would definitely be interested…

I will do this, especially if I have a little while to do it - I am in the midst of sending out job applications at the moment, and figure to have at least some free time for such things between that and actually, well, getting a job. Haven’t played Civ IV in a few months but I’m pretty sure I can still handle Prince well enough :slight_smile:

yeah there isn’t a real hurry for this. After posting I realized I should get the latest patch, but so far it’s taking forever on a slow unreliable dial-up(45 megs :frowning: )

Okay I finally got patch 1.61 dowloaded and installed, so the contest will be using that one. It doesn’t look like the settings need to change any.
