Any cannabis hobbyists here?

About seven years ago, in Yorkshire UK, besides the problem of obtaining that particular product was finding something to smoke it from besides a can. When I last lived in New York and you found an actual “headshop” or just some room behind a curtain in a record store. even using the word “bong” in lieu of “water pipe” or “hookah” would get you disinvited quickly. Of course, as signs would say, these products are “for tobacco use only”

In the town market (back in Old York) t there were like four vape shops and invariably if you walked in, you’d be the only customer and there’d be several salesmen chatting.I knew when I found a place well outside of town what sort of language would not implicate them.

When I was doing some attic growing (USA), the halogen lights and such you were buying were for tomatoes, which are kinda close to you know what in terms of care and feeding. If you want to know about “sexing” (removing the males) you’d best pick up a copy of High Times.

Almost everything I have written would have closed the thread and banned me here in times past. And in the UK if I suddenly tripled my electric usage for 20 hours a day there would be police helicopters with infra-red detectors overhead about five minutes before the door was broken down.

There are a number of houses I run/walk by and they either have lots of plants or are smoking spleefs. I reckon mostly the former yet much the latter as it’s always every time.

I’m going to harvest in a day or two. Woo hoo! It’s not a huge plant and I didn’t thin out the center very well, so I’ve got about 7 big buds around the edge and a lot of plant in the center which will probably be popcorn. already have a new seed soaking for the next plant :slightly_smiling_face:
I think the auto watering bases are the way to go. Combined with coco coir, I think it’s really hard to overwater them. I used nute powder from Lotus. Seems to work. I made a drying box out of the box my tent came in with a Temu fan.

Nice one !
Don’t forget the curing stage !
Keep us updated.

Oh, yeah! I’m going to dry probably about 5 days, and then trim and jar it up with some of those humidity control packets. The dream is to harvest enough that I never have to buy again. I don’t think this plant is going to quite make it. On the other hand, it would be a perfect time for a tolerance break so I could better judge the potency. On the other other hand, I don’t really want to take a break :slightly_smiling_face:

I couldn’t resist :slightly_smiling_face:
Now comes the waiting game. Shit’s sticky

Hehehe, very pretty. My brother just completed his first legal grow, about 11oz from 3 plants started late in the season. It may have been a little over-dried before he moved to curing it, but it is nice.

Kudos to all you growers.

/lazy dispensary customer. (indica bud for volcano; sativa concentrates for dabbing):slightly_smiling_face:

I wonder if opening the tent every day while the light is on, and messing with the plants is good for whatever that seasonal light deprivation malady is. I know I feel a skosh more cheerful

Sounds like a good idea, and light therapy is what they prescribe for those conditions when I lived in Alaska.

It is so cheap to buy legally in this region that I have no desire to grow. When I was young and it was illegal, expensive and hard to get, we had the desire.

Yep. And it’s so cheap. Who’da thunk you could get an ounce for $30? And this is just normal day-in, day-out pricing. Yeah, some are more expensive, some are less. But, it is cheap!

Can anyone give a nutshell explanation of the difference, please?

Drying is to remove the vast majority of moisture from the buds so they don’t mold. That’s usually done in open air or in a ventilated box, as Son_of_a_Rich linked to above.

Curing is done to develop and preserve the flavor and cannabinoids . That’s done after the vast majority of the water has evaporated from the buds, and is done in airtight or nearly airtight containers, ideally with controlled humidity. Dried weed that hasn’t been cured yet often tastes “minty”.

More than most folks need to know:

It’s amazing (and amusing) how artisan cannabis has gotten. It’s a long way from the Mexican red hair full of seeds of my youth.

Cleaning a “lid” on an album cover would yield a crazy amount of seeds. I had shirts with little holes where hot seeds landed.

I hadn’t thought about that in years. I got a hole in one of my favorite tops once.

We are on vacation in St Martin. Spent yesterday at Kali’s beach bar on Friar’s Bay, one of our favorite places in the world. Kali is cannabis friendly to the extreme and a very good friend.

The talk on the beach centered around the fact that I wasn’t partaking (I choose to do a tolerance break while here). As much as I enjoy weed (I partake daily at home) I can also appreciate the difference in experience while abstaining.

Eight of us were sitting around chatting about the worldwide situation with cannabis and how it has changed in our lifetimes (local folks, Americans, and Europeans). I took the joints and pens and passed to my left.

Last night my REM sleep kicked in hard. I had a dream that kinda shook me up and I’m still trying to deal with it.

Cheers guys!!!

I know people who look closely at the ash produced after smoking and tell me if the bud was over -fertilized/not flushed well enough/under-cured/harvested too early or late.

I smile.

I was at one place and they had a big jar of loose broken up flower. It was relatively inexpensive and the sign said “pre-ground”. Bro, that’s shake.

When I was able to grow, shake was what I used to make butter that was used to make oatmeal cookies.

Well, shake is good for just about everything. I certainly prefer to roll shake, for sure.
