Any chances of a good, cheap and lightweight but powerful external laptop battery?

So I have noticed that my laptop’s battery tends to disappear pretty quickly when it’s being used. I wonder if there are any premade, cheap, powerful yet lightweight lithium type batteries out there. I’ve heard that lithium iron phosphates are supposed to be more reliable than lipo ones or something.

I use a gesturing service to type things into my phone because it’s faster, although not very accurate.

This sounds like a classic “choose two of the attributes you want” situation. I think you might be able to find two out of those four at a time, but definitely not all four and probably not even three in one product.

I’ve looked for power banks for a similar purpose, and any that would be useful in terms of runtime are generally at least half the size of the laptop, due to the battery size required and needing an inverter or multi-outputs to fit multiple products.

Amazon has a decent selection generally in the $120-$150 range for ones that would provide a usable amount of time, but you’re probably better off just getting a newer laptop with newer battery technology and lower power consumption and more efficient power throttling.

I have found aftermarket replacement batteries very good, even larger ones which bludge out with extended capacities. But it depends on the run time you need. Laptops today should be able to do 6-8 hours easy, except for the most demanding tasks. If you are looking at 12+ hours perhaps a Li-ion jumpstarter with a laptop adapter would be helpful (including when you need to jumpstart your car).

If it’s a Apple product or one with a user unfriendly replaceable battery, consider replacing it if a new one has the capacity you need.

Newer notebooks with USB C ports can power directly (via the port) off of a portable USB source without adapters or dongles. I’ll leave the math to how long you can run a USB C notebook off the battery to you.

This is among the larger reasonably portable lion battery banks you can get. It’s $60.

Ummm… Not sure what the OP really needs.

For travel? What?

I’ve purchased two DBPower backups. It can jump start a car. And has ports for running laptops and such. It’s about 4 pounds, so not something you put in your pocket.

It could probably run a laptop for a week.

Saved my ass three times now.

The battery in a modern laptop is as high tech as the battery in an external battery of the same vintage. Or better.

So if you’ve got a 2012 laptop you might be able to find a new external battery that’s about as big / heavy as the built-in one but with more life.

For a 2017 laptop it’s a good bet the tech in the internal battery is as high as you can buy. So yes, you can buy and carry more external battery(ies) for more total runtime. But they’re going to scale roughly linearly as to cost, weight, & bulk with what you already have.

You can google external laptop battery. This one is 185Wh and well reviewed.
