Any cite for Harry Potter years?

Don’t Harry and co. have classes with Malfoy and co.? They’re certainly not in the same house, so the classes are probably just grouped by year and the different houses intermingle.

Actually I’m pretty sure that’s only when the Gryffindors have “Double Potions with the Slytherins” (I think they’ve also had Care of Magical Creatures with them, and Double Herbology with I believe the Hufflepuffs?) Anyway, in general as far as I can tell the classes are grouped by house.

However

would definitely seem to be true.

Sorry if I’m stating the obvious here.

I still think that the classes are scheduled using a system of “sets”, i.e each year has maybe 3 sets for each subject.

This is very complex, but it was the system I used when I was at boarding school.

If you haven’t attended the UK school system, you might assume that a house is equivalent to a class. This isn’t true. At my school of 2,000 pupils, our classes (as in lessons) were mixed between our 4 houses. Each house had about 500 people in it.

Unless I’m misinterpreting your use of the word “class”. I think I might be, actually. When you say “class” do you mean the year’s intake of pupils (we’d call it a “year”)?

Furthermore, when the new pupils were put into their respective houses, was it made clear that these were the only new pupils that year? Or were there several choosing ceremonies? Or did the narrative just highlight the main protagonists and ignore hundreds of others?

(I can’t believe I’m actually participating in this thread, as I only came to lurk and mock…)

Having said what I just said, however, I do not think that the numbers would be anywhere near 1000, I would say maybe 500 Max.
