My boyfriend and I both have started to work part-time. Previously we were both in the software industry full-time and wanted to enjoy a little more free time with each other. Has anyone else done this/has it been worth it?
My wife and I do.
I do home remodeling, install replacement windows, drywall repair, paint, tile, portrait and real estate photography, and occasional karaoke gigs (parties, fairs, restaurants …)
My wife cleans apartments for make ready and does freelance accounting.
We make more in about 15 - 25 hours a week than we did in the regular 40 + jobs we had before.
I’ve been self-employed for about 20 yrs. The part time came from getting better at stuff, thus being able to charge more.
Even with the extra time, we still find ourselves very busy. Life just does that. We also travel a good deal, and are involved in various volunteer community projects. We’re not rich by any means, but we feel we have a very nice life.
