Any Deadhead Dopers heading to Chicago? Streaming? Local venue?

I know there’s a small but solid contingent of 'Heads here. What are your plans? Anyone make it to Chicago? We got locked out of mail order and T’master, so will be heading to the Cap Theatre in Port Chester. It’s a Shapiro venue, so will have fantastic sound, their lights and hopefully enough other Heads to make it a party.

Really liked what we heard in Santa Clara. Trey lived up to and moved beyond expectations. Best phrasing I’ve heard so far is that he’s not trying to be Jerry, but he certainly is channelling him. Really looking forward to tonight … if only the clock would start moving again~

(Those of you who never got on the bus; please don’t drop a turd in the thread)

WXRT is streaming each night’s show after it ends, starting around midnight (local time, CST). Guess that works out better if you’re on the west coast

We have friends coming in from Kansas City for all 3 nights. My husband went to the airport to meet them but they missed their flight. He’s sticking around because it’s way too far to come home then back again. When they get in they’ll just go straight to Soldier Field. I’m trying to figure the best way to do that (goddam useless iPhone apps are no help at all. I had better luck with the map that came on my iPhone 3 but they disabled that on later versions to make you use apps. Fuckers).

Our friend Rick is pretty excited. He’s been following (literally) and recording (tape and video) the Dead for decades. He must have thousands of shows. Sad thing? He doesn’t use the internet and has never uploaded anything. Sigh.

My mom is sitting for us this weekend and hoping to figure out streaming Friday and Saturday (she’s coming with us on Sunday). I think Sirius is live streaming it or maybe delaying by an hour or so.

You’re actually in Chicago? Nice. I’d have hit the lot all day (or from three on) and caught the shows in the area.

Please help him!

Sadly I will not be in Chicago…I wanted to go but funds are tight.

I did have the fortune of being at the last 7 dead shows in 1995…sadly our topic of conversation on the way back (St.Louis) was how tired and worn out jerry looked.
With the riots and gate crashing and death threats I am sure it had something to do with it.

I sadly received my mail order tickets for Boston (6 nights and the last ever show in the Gardens) the day Jerry died. These would have been my first shows with my sister. She was married to an east coast taper…

Thanks for the heads up on the radio stream, I get off work about 11:30 tonight and will be tuned in…I may stream on Pay per view tomorrow and Sunday, my son works for charter so I get a substantial discount.

Nothing left to do but
Smile Smile Smile…

Sharp memory. Caught a couple '95 shows. Forewent a full tour to catch a bunch of Allman shows that year (always pined about it, but could have chosen a lot worse). Kinda glad in a way because we would have been at Deer Creek and seen it go from a Mecca of sorts to tainted memory.

God knows we’ve been working on him for years and years! It’s not just the Dead he has recordings of. He must have tens of thousands of recordings from dozens of progressive bands, dating back decades. The Grateful Dead is his favorite band though. We try to get through to him that tape degrades, and he should at least go through what he has and pull out the rarest and most important so we can digitize them. If something happened to him, all his tapes, audio and video, would end up in a landfill somewhere. We can’t get through to him. We keep trying though.

I’m watching the youtube stream from the couch with the wife. I love this. They sound great. I think Trey is trying to fit the sound of the Dead rather than play his style… He sounds like he is trying to copy Garcia’s style and I think it works, but falls slightly on the bland side.

Thank you so much for the link…

Listening now…

I was in Santa Clara and I’m in Chicago now. The vibe is amazing. It’s just like it was.

That is magnificent; I am so fucking happy for you.

Cap was full of Heads. Sound was amazing. They never stopped smiling. They were on.

Vanishingly few things in this world live up to expectations. I am grateful this was one of them.
I miss you Jerry.

Thanks and spot on.

Was lucky enough to have been at Dear Jerry. Ripple encore with everyone back out. Then the lyrics were overlayed on the screens and the emotions were overwhelming. not always a fan of singalongs, but it was something else. Glad tonight’s was acoustic clear.

Guesses for the next two nights? Easy ones are One More Saturday Night and US Blues tomorrow, and a WBYG encore on Sunday. I’m pulling for a NFA and a Terrapin art some point. Would absolutely love a So Many Roads or Days Between. It’s a fine line between guesses and hope, isn’t it?

I sent my son a text saying almost saying this, verbatim.

my pick, dare i say a ringer, for sunday is a kickin Sampson and Delilah

still hoping for your/our terrapin… i think tomorrow.

eta…so many roads would be sweet, as would a days.

I’d have loved to have seen one of the shows but there was never any chance…
Anyway, here’s Rudy Rucker’s blog about the San Jose gig. He’s never been a big fan but he enjoyed the show.

Wow, they played New Potato Caboose. One of my favorites, I’ve never seen them do. Epic second set.

As for guesses I’ll say Brokedown Palace as the last night encore although I see they ended one of the Santa Clara shows with it. They could end with Attics of My Life but then everyone would be a mess. I got choked up just thinking about it. They’d need to play something upbeat to pull everybody out, like Not Fade Away.

They still need to play Bird Song and Cassidy. And China Cat/GDTRFB. And…

I’m glad to hear the shows are going well.

They played Birdsong last night. The only repeat so far has been Cumberland.

Great fireworks after the show last night and great energy again. I’ve been on the bus since the Rex benefit show the day before the first Santa Clara show and I should be exhausted but I am so energized.

They won’t be able to play everything left in one show but I am expecting Terrapin, China/Rider, Althea, Cassidy, Touch of Grey , Samson and NFA tonight.

As I have been saying, the energy has been unbelievable. Just like the old days.

And the weather has been perfect for all of the shows. Santa Clara got the rainbow and Chicago has been beautiful. No rain and not oppressive muggyness. Perfect tshirt and jeans weather.
