Any doctors in tha howse?

82 year old male
Recently (last week) hospitalized with:

  • Advanced Hepatic Encephalopathy
  • Cirrhosis ala Liver
  • Gastritis
  • Severe Thiamin Deficiency
Heavy drinker (ja think?) gone cold turkey in the hospital detox unit.

Whaddaya say? Should we start digging or is survival a likely possibility? Doc will advise on Monday, but I’d like an advance warning.

No way to predict, mate. Obviously, he is in a tight spot, but there is always a chance he’ll live to 100, or die tomorrow, at this point. =D

Cheers!
BA

He’s in a lot of trouble. If he lives, don’t expect Voltaire.

It depends, in part, on the presence or absence of some other things such as ascites (distended, pregnant-looking belly), jaundice, and various blood tests.

Here is a link that summarizes some of the prognostic factors.

Has Jaundice, hematocrit is 24, he’s got the belly thing going on.
Thanks for the link. We’ll keep it on and when test results star comng in.
