Any Dopers from Ventura County CA?

My sister lives in San Diego and our parents are visiting her right now. I just asked her on Facebook if they were safe, and she said that they are - that the fire is a long ways from where they are, and the air quality is OK so far.

I’ve heard that with the warming planet, a drier climate in Southern California and a longer fire season is ‘the new normal’.

My wife and I had to leave. When the air quality degraded to the ‘hazardous’ category, her asthma went out of control. Her job is in a mandatory evacuation zone, so no need to stick around anyhow.

The air up here in Pismo Beach is nice and breathable.

My girlfriend is in Lompoc and she told me that it’s not so bad out there. She has all but forbidden me from leaving the indoors.

There’s an immediate positive difference as soon as you go over Gaviota Pass. The Santa Ynez valley was smoky, but only mildly so.

I grew up in Ojai, and still have friends there. I’ve been watching the news about the Thomas Fire closely. The house I grew up in isn’t too far from where it is.

Does anybody know if Oaks Christian School will have any problems with getting to their Southern Division football championship game?

Who to blame?

Yeah, they’re now turning the power off during some high wind events in critical areas as a preventative measure.
