And if so, can you tell me anything more about this story?

The deceased was a friend of mine; I met him when he was in grad school here in Memphis. What can you tell me about the Capt. Loomis Inn? What kind of a bar is it? What about the neighborhood? What about the neighborhood around where he lived, in the 100 block of South 4th Ave.?

I’m trying to make some sense of this, to get a better feel for what the setting was like. I hadn’t spoken to him in over a year, but I got frequent updates about him from a mutual friend.

Any light that can be shed on any aspect of this situation will be much appreciated; I’m still kind of in shock about this. There’s quite an involved backstory about him that I don’t much feel like going into, but I’d like to know whatever additional input anyone can add.

I didn’t grow up in the area, but my mother did. She hasn’t lived there for a long time but she might recognize some place names.

I also know another woman around town who lived in that area more recently. I’ll try to remember to ask her next time I see her.
