We’re going to drive out to Virginia next month (from Milwaukee). Is there any easy way to calculate highway tolls before going? I’ve searched on-line but I didn’t find anything that’s multi-state.
If you are an AAA member, their Trip Planner service used to provide you with door to door maps, turn-by-turns, and approximate tolls for any trip plan. I don’t know if it does any longer.
Aside from that? I don’t know of any online service that does it.
Wisconsin to Virginia shouldn’t be onerous, my usual strategy is to grab a roll of quarters, and about $25 in SINGLES for a trip anywhere up and down the east coast, and keep them in a handy spot. (Or use EZ-Pass, or the like).
Are the toll roads owned/operated by a specific company? Their website might have a trip and toll planner on it.
I know the 407 ETR in Toronto does, but it’s privately maintained. You can select the place you’re going to get on and off the highway and the website will tell you the cost. Of course, they make it easy; no toll booths. You either get a transponder for regular use, or they just electronically read your licence plate and send a bill to the car’s registered address. The ETR is rather expensive, though.
I’ll be using an I-Pass transponder. I’m trying to figure out how much to preload on it as I rarely use it otherwise.
I can’t find the info on AAA. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Click on the individual state links and add up the totals.
Perhaps you need to visit your local AAA office and obtain a trip planner.
