Woo-hoo! Level 10! I should reach 11 tomorrow (Wednesday), as I already have 84 of 90 XP.
These war games are great for leveling I just got 8 today and would be close to 9 but I screwed up and didn’t notice there was a battle last night.
If I get to 11 first, I’ll go ahead and create the parent organization, unless someone else wants to do it. As I understand it (please correct), the organization is essentially a holding company, with its own name and identity. The companies that the organization owns will each have their own name. So: SDCorp (is that the agreed-on name?) can own the Little Annie Creme Cake and Howitzer Co. as well as the Dirty Bastard Iron Co. (or whatever names we come up with).
I assume that different general managers can be assigned to each of the operating companies.

Yes, that’s right. Note that the organization must travel to the place where the company is to be founded/bought. I believe that you can buy any company in Indonesia (not sure) but that if you create a company with the organization, the company will appear in the same province the organization is.
I think that you can only log in under the organization name, so everybody having access to the organization will have access to all the companies it holds too, which doesn’t prevent from picking a particular person to manage a particular company.
The “General Manager” of the companies will be the organization itself, in game terms.
I doubt so… Personnally, I still only have 5 gold. Could everybody who has some gold tell how much he can invest now? But the organization would already be useful, IMO. For instance, yesterday, it would have been more convenient to stockpile the Q1 food ** Nicolas Bourbaki ** bought in an organization to be redistributed.
I think that if someone wants to take care of that, it could be interesting that people in different countries look for very good deals on things we might have an use for (Q1 and Q2 food? moving tickets?). For instance, we could state : if anybody see Q2 food under X gold, buy up to that many of it, and send it to the organization. Someone would have to reimburse people, sell back whatever has been bought to whoever needs it, decide and inform everybody about what should/ shouldn’t be bought and at what price, and probably send some money to new players in advance so that they’ll be able to buy when they notice the cheap price, or even send messages if he notices himself that there’s a good deal in a country a doper is living. Of course, we’ll have to put some gold in the organization to do that. I don’t think we need much. 0.5 or 1 gold for people who have reached level 6, maybe?

In any case, if you create the organization, let me know, I will buy an “unlimited storage” for it, because it’s really way more convenient, as much for messages as for storing stuff.

Basically, the Austrian government is seeking for someone to create a weapon company in its country, to provide weapons to the Austrian army.Note that Austria has been changing hands every other day lately (but should become a one-province enclave in Italy, so protected by this country, and be safe now), will have a low population, and probably no iron, so it will have to be imported. I just mention it in case it would seem interesting to you. Personnally, I find the concept dubious, but I’ve no clue about how much weapons a small government would be willing to buy, whether it could help creating the company, etc… If someone thinks it’s a good idea, and wants to mail Metallon (the author of the article/president of an independantist party/possibly Austrian president now) to negociate/ask for informations…

Note that the organization will have to travel to wherever the company will be founded, and that will cost a ticket. But it doesn’t matter right now, especially since ** Raza ** might not be living in the province we’ll found the company in (for instance, if he’s living in a border province that could change hand, it would be better to create the company in a safer Indonesian province).
Let us know when you and ** Raza** will have decided who will create the Org.
So I´m at level 12 now and can do just about everything I need to do. I have maybe 8 gold to contribute. We can pool our gold when I get home and I can ramp up the currency market expeditions to raise our capital.
Have you considered, clairobscur, of going horizontal infrastructure? My org that I work for now has a gift and a weapons company. We get paid in gifts given by the owner and our salary is about half. This is great because it´s like I get to eat twice a day. Can you run the numbers on making, say, a US weapon and gift combo? It might save money because we wouldn´t have to pay market prices for the gifts so we can substitute the price of production to see how low a salary we can pay people.

As far as names goes I’m in favor of SD Inc. I don’t know if horizontal integration is really a good way to go because the second corp would just be a way to fund the first I think we would be better off using the extra money to get our original company dialed in.

I know this isn’t “real life”, but the game is trying to model real life, and if this were RL I would want some sort of basic partnership agreement. Nothing fancy - just a basic understanding of how we will allocate ownership & dividends; what happens if someone wants to quit or cash-out (if even allowable); what if new members want to join, etc.
Granted that seems pretty petty, but I’d hate for there to be hard feelings a week down the road due to varying assumptions.

So, the idea is to pool what we have in the organization when Raza or Dosipede will have created it and you’ll be in charge of speculating on the monetary market with what we have until we have gathered enough to create the company?
While we’re at it : it’s probably simpler if whoever create the Organization picks whatever name he fancies.
I’ll try to do that tomorrow, but the problem is still that since I’ve to pick pretty arbitrary figures for salaries and expenses…and the more factors are included, the less reliable the figure is.
Also, why switch to the US? Couldn’t we do the same in Indonesia? I’m waiting for an answer, because I’d rather not run figures for both countries (especially since we won’t be able to create a second/third company (gifts) in the near future.

No, it makes perfect sense, but I had thought that since the org/company wasn’t created yet, and that there was only a handful of us able to invest now, we could discuss it later.
I had thought of the following, very roughly : regarding benefits : just keep them for the time being until we have enough to create the second (iron or now, gifts) company. Regarding ownership :either wait until each of has given 10 gold, and be equal co-owners, or someone just keep tracks of how much has been handed by whom and what %age of the corporation is owned by each as a result.
As for the rest (what to do with new members, what if someone wants to cash out, etc…), frankly I’ve no idea yet. Maybe you could try to think of some basic proposals while we start? Maybe also we could use a dedicated forum rather than this thread to discuss it in detail later, if someone knows how to open one (I don’t).
ETA : just remembered that on the experience table, it’s indicated that you can open a “private forum” when you reach level 10. Maybe someone already at this level could check if this feature exists and how it works?
I verified that this text does exist, but I cannot find anywhere that discusses how to do this, nor do I find any menu choices/buttons/links that allow you to do it.
If this feature really exists and works as expected, that would be my first choice. However, if it doesn’t, then I have some extra Web space on my servers and can whip up a vanilla phpBB forum in a few minutes.
I’ve got another 5 gold for a total of 28.
As for organizational structure I was thinking that the easiest way would be for us to get a percentage based on our contributions. Once the company is formed we could ‘create’ 200 shares and give out 100 based on current contributions. The rest could be purchased by other dopers wanting into the corp or us if we wanted to buy in more. Cashing out could be done by either selling the stock back to the corp or to each other. If we keep the ‘stock’ price pegged to the total valuation of the corp it will be easy to track what ‘shares’ are worth and when it get high enough that new dopers can’t buy in we can just split the shares.
Oh on a different note. I think we should keep discussing here. Just from our current talks we have convinced a couple more dopers to join and I think that if we more to a special board we will have trouble increasing our numbers.
