Any eRepublik players out there?

It has absolutely nothing to do with a “D&D game”.

Did you join, ** Dosipede **?

Hehe, sounds like Eve but without spaceships.

Yeah. Dosipede is “Amphibious Rodent”. And it’s not live Eve, I don’t think. It’s more like the Sims or something. Is there a career path in Eve?

Yes Eve has career paths and a player driven market.

Sounds like an interesting way to kill some time, I’ll sign up. Tell me how to give you the credit.

PM me your email address and I’ll send an invite.

I’m up and running in California under the same name.

I am playing under the same name. I’m considering moving; from my hurried analysis of the data on eRepTools, it seems Canada has the best combo of salary * food prices. The food is fairly cheap where I am (Pakistan), but of course wages are pretty low.

Or do like me, work in a country where salaries are high and buy your food from Chessic Sense (or someone else) at cheap American prices.
Isn’t Pakistan currently invaded, by the way?

I’m a fan of that approach. Eventually, I’ll want those cheap French gifts from you.

Raza, why isn’t your name showing up?

I found a Raza, but he’s living in Indonesia. Since he displays a low level of interest in his country, maybe he forgot what country he is a citizen of? ;);
I’m not sure gifts are that cheap. They were slightly cheaper yesterday, but to say the truth I didn’t pay attention yet to the prices of anything besides food and currencies (I made a buck selling Mexican pesos today. That’s a beginning). I just accidentally needed to check gift prices yesterday, as you may know.

By the way, food is sold at absolutely ludicrously high prices in Moldavia. Something like USD 10 for Q2 food, and they don’t even have other qualities. If you could make a deal with one of the (rare, I admit) Moldavian citizens, you could make a huge profit.

Frankly, I don’t understand how this national identity thing in eRepublik works. When I signed up, it asked me to choose a country. Never having been there, I chose Pakistan. But apparently Pakistan is “occupied” by Indonesia, so it shows my country as Indonesia, even though I’m living in Sindh, which is a province in (what is actually) Pakistan. So while I know where I am, I’m confused as to what nationality I’m supposed to be.

Currently Malaysia has about the cheapest food, at 0.018 gold per Q1. Pakistan is 0.025 (though, again, I’m not sure if I can actually buy on the Pakistan market, even though I’m in Sindh). Indonesia is 0.041. USA seems pretty good, at 0.027, with probably decent wages (although a 20% income tax). Salaries in the USA for a level 4 worker in manufacturing are about 0.31 gold, but in Indonesia 0.46 gold (these are after taxes). So, the USA has cheaper food, but significantly lower wages, unless I’m off in my data analysis (very much a possibility).

Malaysia has a huge problem on its hand. Their economy is devastated. That’s probably state-subventioned food sold to prevent people from emigrating in droves, and I wouldn’t bet on it staying at low prices on the long term. I suspect their might be wild variations in prices in this country while they’re trying to reorganize everything (I chatted with a newly-elected Malaysian congressman yesterday).

Or maybe, since they’re in the process of reducing massively import taxes (grain went from 99% to 1% yesterday), some exporters have already set up shop there. Still, I wouldn’t choose it to work or live.

You’re Indonesian, because Sindh is now owned by Indonesia, having been conquered by Indonesia from Pakistan.

You’re playing too?

I’m attempting to. I’m in the US, have a low paying job at an oil company and am barely scraping by.

I’ve changed my mind about moving to a country where salaries are high and buying food from countries where it’s cheap). Because in a few days, I’ve noticed that entry-level salaries and low quality products prices are too volatile.

When I joined France some days ago, entry-level (level 0-1) salaries were high. I got a job paying 5 FRF. Then, within a couple days, those salaries had massively dropped (50% for a level 0 job, that was now paying about 2.5 FRF). Then, a day later, level 1 job were paying more again, but level 0 salaries stayed low. I suspect that for more skilled jobs, there aren’t such wild variations.

Similarly, Q1 food prices in the USA rose by 50% or so over the last night, for some unknown reason, while prices in France dropped a little, making Q1 food cheaper in France. Meanwhile prices for Q2 food are seemingly more stable.

So, I think you’re right when, while picking your potential new country, you’re planning ahead by considering salaries of medium-level skilled workers or medium-term opportunities, rather than focusing , as I was doing, on “how much is paid an entry-level job? How much cost a piece of bread, there?”

Yes, we’re all there. Maybe someday we’ll talk about mergers and high politics instead of discussing the affordability of food for lowly workers.

Nevertheless I spent (way too much) time reading all sort of things over there, and the game appears very rich. Looking into the issues of various countries or the perspectives of their citizens is very interesting. I hope I won’t be disappointed. There’s no shortage of things I wish I’d be able to do.
Will you disclose your eRep name?

Sure. It’s epicurius.
